Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2200 KP) rated Jethro and Joel Were a Troll in Books
Mar 9, 2018
The two-headed troll Jethro and Joel have a problem. While Jethro is quite content to spend his days raising the turnips they love to eat, Joel wants to be terrorizing people. When Jethro finally gives in and allows Joel to have control of their body for one day, what will happen?
I’ve always loved the title of the book, and I still find the story fun. The way he builds up to that final sentence will please adults, and the fast moving story and pictures will entertain the target picture book audience. What surprised me while reading this as an adult is the clear allegory about the dangers of giving in to what you know is wrong. Oh, don’t worry, this is a picture book with a happy ending, and it never slows down the story to lecture us.

Zoe (85 KP) rated A Court of Frost and Starlight: Court of Thorns and Roses in Books
Jul 25, 2019
A quick read.
I enjoyed the book, the characters and the concept but felt it ended too quickly without really having much of an ending. It seemed to build up a picture of the characters but lacked excitement and real plot.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2200 KP) rated Granite in Books
Mar 9, 2018
This picture book introduces us to Granite, one of the dogs used by Iditarod Trail racer Susan Butcher in her races in the 1980’s. Granite was the runt of his litter, and but Susan felt a bond to him. Will that bond be enough to win races? What else might the pair endure on their quest to win?
This is a heartwarming picture book for dog lovers of all ages. It captures the love between Susan and Granite perfect with pictures and words. It’s hard not to smile as you read and be concerned for the pair when they face danger. The fact that it is based on a real story makes it all the more memorable.

Auburn (57 KP) rated Connected (Talon #4) in Books
Apr 10, 2019
This is the second book and you can really tell the growth that has happened to Matica from the first book. There is also more information given about the land, condor's, and even the spider bite. It is very informational for younger readers and helps paint a picture you can really visualize.
The idea that everything is connected and even the condor's are a part of the family just makes it feel more real.
