This picture book introduces us to Granite, one of the dogs used by Iditarod Trail racer Susan Butcher in her races in the 1980’s. Granite was the runt of his litter, and but Susan felt a bond to him. Will that bond be enough to win races? What else might the pair endure on their quest to win?

This is a heartwarming picture book for dog lovers of all ages. It captures the love between Susan and Granite perfect with pictures and words. It’s hard not to smile as you read and be concerned for the pair when they face danger. The fact that it is based on a real story makes it all the more memorable.

This is the second book and you can really tell the growth that has happened to Matica from the first book. There is also more information given about the land, condor's, and even the spider bite. It is very informational for younger readers and helps paint a picture you can really visualize.
The idea that everything is connected and even the condor's are a part of the family just makes it feel more real.

Gorgeously presented card game
This game looks gorgeous, it is designed like a children's picture book. You have random cards and characters and use them to battle. Although beautiful looking i am not sure if the game ill last weeks of play.

The more times you read the book the more you get from it. It really makes you think differently about things and I love that about a book. The descriptions are well detailed so you can paint an amazing picture. (0 more)
There are some racism remarks which I'm guessing at the time was written wasn't "a big deal" but it makes for uncomfortable reading. Also in the follow on books there are a few inconsistencies, but if you can over look doesn't effect the story too much. (0 more)
A thinking book!

This book has a special place in my heart because it saved my senior thesis in undergrad. I was a lonely little Texan in Midwestern hell, and decided to write my thesis on the TX revolution after I bought this book.
In short, this is the history of the revolution, the Republic of Texas, then becoming part of the USA. The colorful and well-known characters involved in the colonization and subsequent events are all used to create an overall picture of the time period. Overall, a great book.

I am Bat by Morag Hood is a simple picture book. There are many things children will enjoy about it. The main character, Bat, is grumpy and selfish with his food, but he is adorable. The illustrations are cute and the reader ends up liking this grumpy little bat. The drawings are simple, but are done well. The book touches on fruit, colors, feelings, and hints at friends.

I give this story 4/5 stars.

I received this book from Sourcebooks Jabberwocky via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book is so inspiring! I loved flipping through the book and looking at the pictures of the quilts and reading about them. It was fun to read, too. These stories felt more like fictional short-stories than they did a historical report! The only thing I would change is I would have liked the book itself to be a little larger, because the pictures were so small. I also would have liked to see more pictures of the quilt. There was only one picture of each quilt.

This would be an excellent gift to a quilter or a quilt collector.

Where Are You, Wilbert?

Where Are You, Wilbert? by Bárdur Oskarsson is a picture book about a small gray rat and her large gray friend, Wilbert. They are playing hide-and-seek. Wilbert is tough to find, so the rat asks a crocodile for help. Together, they hunt behind every tree they can see, and finally, the rat spots Wilbert. The illustrations are strange and lovely at the same time.

While I enjoyed the book, I did find the book a bit strange and hard to follow.

I received an ARC from Owlkids books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Emotional- quite heavy subject matter
Quick yet emotional read
I love this book - brought it then finished it in the car ride home. Very heavy subject matter but dealt with in a skillful and thought evoking way. I cried a lot- still do when i tell friends what its about. It has a picture book type appeal but i suggest you give it a read before giving it to anyone young due to the subject matter it deals with.
