For the hour or two that it takes to read this book of poems, many will feel that they have a friend. Someone who understands what they're going through. It feels very much like a pep talk from your best friend, reminding you of your worth. Most of the poems are very short. 3-5 lines for the smallest, but overall I really liked this collection, and I plan to read the other two in the series.

Beth Porter's "Resident Aliens," gives us a novella, four poems and three short stories all focusing on the darker sides of post-war/post-depression era of New York through characters whose lives reflect it's less glamorous neighborhoods.
