Great cast (0 more)

A good drama that follows different entwining stories related to drugs in America. The film covers all aspects of the drug problem from the drug cartels in Mexico, the police officers on both sides of the border, the political side of things and the users. It's good how the stories all connect similar to Babel, Crash. This has a great cast and Benicio Del Toro is the best of them in my opinion. A little slow at times on some stories but overall a great film.

The whole time I was reading this all I thought of was the movie with the robots - I believe it is called pacific rim. I don't know what I expected when I started this book but I got more than I bargained for I think. I like the excitement - when it happened - but for the most part this was just a political "thriller" type book - the thrills were lacking though - everything felt super slow and I didn't really understand what the point of the book was. Highly disappointed.

As usual Doctorow makes you think. This novel deals with a world where the division between the have and have nots has become insurmountable. It really had a very slow start though. The characters seemed whiney and aimless. The plot seemed to have little direction. This changed a little over halfway through the book when the pieces all began to fit togther. At this point the book began to become recognizable as a Doctorow book making political commentary and making the reader think. Best advice is do not give up on this book.

Sorry To Bother You (2018) has nothing to apologise for. #Review

Boots Riley’s absurdist, pitch-black satire may just end up becoming one of the most important and resonant films of our time. Not because its concerned particularly with the topical venality of Trumpism and the ongoing corruption of western political discourse but because it looks beyond these deplorable but ultimately transient phases at the bigger societal picture and savages the superficiality of a social media-driven world sleepwalking into a voluntary corporatocracy....

David McK (3883 KP) rated Relentless (The Lost Fleet, #5) in Books

Jan 30, 2019

This is the penultimate book in Jack Campbell (pen-name of Jon Geary) 'Lost Fleet' series, with the Alliance fleet nearing their home border with the Syndics. The very start of this novel is actually set 100 years previous, before 'Black Jack' Geary is rescued from survival sleep before the very start of the first book in the series: "Dauntless".

If you've read the others in the series, you prety much know what to expect: 'real-time' space battles, political machinations, and a sub-plot involving traiters within the fleet ...
