Maybe it was better when she couldn't remember who she was supposed to be...

Single-mom, Kendall Madison has a lot on her plate. Her ex-husband wants back in the picture, her three children have all developed super-natural powers, and the love of her many lives wants to have another go at their forever.

She has a team to lead and homework to manage. The shadows are growing in strength and the battle she was brought back to life to fight has begun. How is a woman supposed to manage all of that and not fall apart? Kendall needs to figure out how to cope or the entire world will fall apart. Or maybe it already has and was always meant to. If she can find the missing phoenix there will be a chance... the only problem is no one has seen it twenty years...

I absolutely adore Rebecca Royce and this is one of my favourites of hers! I love how she uses a “normal” female lead, a wife and a mother who not only battles the supernatural but also day to day problems too. She's not perfect and doesn't always get it right. This series has a great storyline with strong characters I’m loving it!

I haven't seen the anime of this yet, and I'm not sure which was released first. I'm definitely interested in seeing the show now though, and am certainly going to read the rest of the manga volumes (if I can find/afford them all!).

As usual, I will try not to ruin the plot for anyone who wants to read it. I'll just say that Ichigo can see ghosts, and one day comes across a soul reaper - who accidentally gives her powers away and is stuck in a temporary human body. Together, they work as soul reapers to rid the world of "evil" hollows - which takes them through some pretty sad memories.

The writing is great - I found this so so comedic, and just enjoyable to read all the way through. I read all 500+ pages in one afternoon!

There's also some.seriously sad stuff in there - dead family members make guest appearances, and I actually found some of the scenes so touching and painful. The entire volume was just written so fantastically.

The art is amazing, too - I especially liked the odd blank page with just a small illustration that peppered the book. It was artistic, yet still presented the story well.

This is probably gonna be a favourite of mine for a long time. I cannot wait to read on - the end of the third volume in this collection is very intriguing! 5/5 stars.

Project Power (2020)
Project Power (2020)

Great idea, shame about the execution
Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon Levitt in a film about superpowers, I couldn’t have been more excited. However sadly for Project Power, the film itself doesn’t live up to it’s premise.

The cast in this are great. You can never fault Jamie Foxx or Joseph Gordon Levitt, and you definitely can’t in this. Dominique Fishback puts in a great turn too and even Rodrigo Santoro hams it up the best he can with the material he has to work with. And that’s the problem with this film, the material, plot and execution are not very good and letdown everything else. The idea behind this film, a pill that gives you superpowers is genius, and something we haven’t seen before in the superhero genre. The way they subtly show physical changes in the characters who have taken the pills on multiple occasions is very well done and the general concept and science behind the pills is pretty believable. Even the CGI is pretty well done and the reveal of Jamie Foxx’s character’s powers towards the end of the film is quite a spectacle. It’s just a massive shame that the plot itself is rather plodding and lacklustre and it’d be completely uninteresting if it wasn’t for the action and superpowers.

Overall this was a decent entertaining sci-fi and not a bad watch, it just could’ve been so much better.

Endless Night ( Arcana chronicles book 2)

Shocking secrets

Evie has fully come into her powers as the Tarot Empress, and Jack was there to see it all. She now knows that the teens who've been reincarnated as the Tarot are in the throes of an epic battle. It's kill or be killed, and the future of mankind hangs in the balance.

Unexpected allies

With threats lurking around every corner, Evie is forced to trust her newfound alliance. Together they must fight not only other Arcana, but also Bagmen zombies, post-apocalyptic storms, and cannibals.

Gut-wrenching treachery

When Evie meets Death, things get even more complicated. Though falling for Jack, she's drawn to the dangerous Endless Knight as well. Somehow the Empress and Death share a history, one that Evie can't remember--but Death can't forget...

I didn’t think I could enjoy the second as much as the first book but I did! I listened to it on Audio which I’m still getting used to. I’m absolutely in love with Death and god knows what Evie sees in Jack he is so annoying!! So yea I’m team Death! This was fast paced and full of adventure I would absolutely recommend Kresley Cole! The whole story that we finally hear about Death and the Empress is absolutely fascinating can't wait to see where this dark path goes!
