One of the best movies ever made. The story of an honest banker who finds out his wife is cheating on him and is accused of her and her lovers murder is sent to Shawshank prison for two consecutive life terms. He is put through all the horrible things we hear about in prision. However he befriends an inmate who has been there for a long time who controls the smuggling of hard to get stuff in. Morgan freeman and Tim Robbins give Epic award winning performances in this suspenseful, dramatic movie that never has a dull moment in it. Mediocre adaptation from a book by Gillian Flynn. I couldn't fathom Theron's character, Libby. Yes she was young when the murders happened but she seems so detached and unemotional about what happened she just didn't seem believable to me. Also, by the end of the film I still didn't understand why she lied about the evidence she gave, why had she never visited her brother in prison when they seemed quite close when they were young, DNA and fingerprint testing was around in 1985 so how come this was not used or further tested in the intervening years re the gun and the neck of the sister? More holes than a sieve!

I had watched the series and was intrigued to hear the story from Piper's POV, in her own words. There are scenes in the series taken right out of the book, word for word, but there were a lot of differences as well.

Piper is portrayed in the show as a selfish jerk. In the book, she was the complete opposite. I get that drama has to be added in order to make the show more appealing, but the story as told in the book is an interesting insight into this woman who, through stupid choices in her youth, was incarcerated and faced with the harsh realities of life in prison and the struggles of her fellow inmates.

After an injury leaves Eve unable to dance, she becomes the head chef at her family's Italian restaurant. One more, she arrives to find a dead man in the kitchen. She's even more shocked to learn the dead man is her grandmother's current boyfriend. Why was he there? And can Eve keep her grandmother out of prison?

The cast of characters was a little too large, and I had a hard time keeping them all straight at first. They came into focus as things went along, and the plot was always moving forward. An absolutely fun debut.

Life behind bars

Well I'm late to the party on this one. Heard great things about this and it's be on my list on Netflix for ages. At 13 episodes and all around an hour long it is quite a big series.
The first half of the series is very funny as a new prisoner tries to adapt to prison life for carrying drugs 10 years previously. There are some great characters and plot lines in this. I found it was running out of momentum a bit towards the end. Still overall it's a very good series if you have missed it so far.
