A Look at the Possibilities of AI
Contains spoilers, click to show
This movie is a fantastic look at the possibilities of artificial intelligence. While Ava is questionable about the full extent of her intelligence as she was merely programmed to make Caleb fall in love with her. I'm not sure that there is any difference between her and another person. She wanted freedom and while she did everything she could to gain that freedom. Her final decision to leave Caleb is the ultimate test of her intelligence. While she certainly used him to gain freedom that showed her intelligence. However, it also showed her lack of humanity. This does show that she has true artificial intelligence she has no humanity which means that she is not the same as a human and never will be. She failed Nathan's true purpose for her though succeeding in her own purpose.

Nicole Hadley (380 KP) rated Grumpy Cat's All About Miserable Me: A Doodle Journal for Everything Awful in Books

Grumpy Cat's All About Miserable Me:A Doodle Journal for Everything Awful by Jimi Bonogofsky-Gronseth is a fun little book. It is a book where people get to engage by making their own doodles to the story. This book is very interactive.
I received an advance reader edition of this book from Dover Publications via NetGalley for the purpose of providing an honest review.

This kept me interested without being overly engrossing. I wanted to know what was going to happen next, but I wasn't necessarily desperate to get back to reading.
The Chain, as an idea, is terrifyingly smart. Obviously to actually be a part of such a thing would be terrible, but the fact is, this organization worked for its purpose. There wasn't a whole lot of surprises or unexpected events; no gasping out loud or expressions of shock. Mostly, there was the feeling of anger, fear, and uncertainty. You can't read this and condemn Rachel for her choices - because what would you do?
That, perhaps, is the main purpose of this book. Love can make you do all kinds of things: stupid things, silly things, good things, and even bad - horrible - things. The Chain makes you think about your morals. And a book that makes you think twice about your own beliefs is worth the read.

Ross (3282 KP) rated The Boys: The Name Of The Game in Books

Superb twisted take on the superhero genre
I read these a few years ago, but following the recent superb TV series, I have decided to re-read them. Volume 1 brings together the first 6 issues of the comic.
This first volume gives an introduction to the boys, and their purpose, and the fact that the world is now full of twisted, power-hungry superheroes, who have corporate sponsorship.
Hughie is devastated when his girlfriend becomes collateral damage in a fight between supes, and is quickly invited into the boys to seek revenge.
Unlike the TV series, the boys don't go straight after The Seven, preferring a lower profile target to make their comeback known. They go after Teenage Kix, a group of young superheroes who engage in all manners of unsavoury antics behind closed doors. Through spying, blackmail and eventual violence, the boys take down this group and make their purpose known.
Brilliant artwork, fantastic dialogue and a real twisted, yet believable, storyline.

Harrowing and important
I wish I concentrated on this more. There are some very important and valid points Viktor Frankl makes, especially given the author is also a psychiatrist and a survivor of the Holocaust. It is extremely traumatic and harrowing hearing his experiences in several concentration camps, and how he changed his attitude in order to stay alive.
Frankl concludes that man's search for purpose and meaning in life gives his ability to survive.

Erika (17788 KP) rated Cobalt Squadron: Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi in Books
Apr 21, 2018 (Updated Apr 21, 2018)
If you didn't like the Last Jedi, I definitely don't recommend this book. This is a sort of introduction/slight backstory for Rose and her sister (whatever the chick's name is). I disliked Rose in the film, as I felt she served zero purpose, other than creating some lame love triangle. This book made me dislike her even more.
I don't blame the author, she had sh-- characters to deal with.

B (62 KP) rated Amazon Kindle in Apps
Sep 29, 2018
I have a love-hate relationship with the Amazon Kindle app. I usually am anti-ereader because I love the feeling of books and the experience of reading a physical copy, but I can't be 100% against them because I understand their purpose of trying to reduce papet usage, reading at night, etc. I also can't be a hypocrite because I have the app on my phone for convenience's sake. So anyways I guess the app is alright.
