Suswatibasu (1701 KP) rated Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders in Books
Jan 3, 2018
Vincent Bugliosi is methodical in his descriptions leading up to the end of the trial, relaying information as if solving a puzzle. And in many ways the Manson riddle is truly a mystery. Why would such a crime receive so much notoriety when mass murders have claimed far greater lives? Bugliosi discusses his own argument in the case in great detail, the fact that Manson had only to influence others around him to carry out the act that he himself did not commit. Does this make him equally culpable? In Bugliosi's mind - absolutely.
At the end, we hear his own assertions, Manson's links to other cult phenomena such as Satanism, Latter Day Saints, and even Scientology, in which Manson was said to be greatly influenced by. Riveting read for those who don't want the sensationalism and just the straight facts.
Cori June (3033 KP) rated The Dragonstone (Mithgar, #1) in Books
Dec 3, 2018 (Updated Dec 8, 2018)
Technically, I rate this book as 7 1/2 stars (I'm not sure how to do a half rating & enjoyed it enough to round up). I received over half of his books over ten years ago about the same time as the LOTR movies came out. Yes, they are very similar. You can tell he is a LOTR fan. Like a lot of his books, this story starts in the middle and builds through flashbacks. One of my favorite things about this books series is that you get multiple p.o.v. And you can read the series all hodgepodge with few as "true" sequels or trilogies- most of those are contained as one book now.
Lee KM Pallatina (951 KP) rated the Xbox 360 version of The Testament of Sherlock Holmes in Video Games
Feb 3, 2020
The story follows holmes and Watson as they try to solve multiple murders & features classic Sherlock Holmes character Moriarty.
The game features some near perfect voice overs in very well built london areas.
During the game you are able to combine items in you inventory in order to progress, although knowing what and when can become mind numbing.
The control's are simple but character movement can be a tad bit glitchy (I just opened the closed inventory, it works)
The hint option is something I personally consider as broken...having to tap the left trigger when available and having to be facing the objective is annoying.
I love puzzles in games but in this case there isn't much to enjoy as there's no indication of what to do to complete it (not all are difficult)
There are times where you are able to play as watson which oddly seems better?
There's no auto save but it is a pre gen game.
The game has a nice mix of light and dark tones and to tend to put your brain to work.
EasterBunnyKiller (31 KP) rated The Resistance in Tabletop Games
Jul 31, 2019
The first time I played it, it didn't leave much of an impression. Felt like a more lightweight version of Werewolf.
After watching the Tabletop episode, I gave it another chance and had a much better time. Like a lot of lightweight party-style games, The Resistance lives and dies on the specific people playing it. If you have even just one or two players that have a little bit of buy-in, or what to really get into the scheming and accusations, it can be immensely fun.
However, sometimes you end up with a group of players that eschew the seat-of-the-pants gameplay implied by the quickness and lightweightedness of the game, and by the third mission, the game has become less about being sneaky and playing against people, and turns into a kind of logic puzzle.
Have had some real fun games, have had a few dull ones. Definitely worth a play if you're looking for something light and fast while you're waiting for the one guy in your gaming group to make heads or tails of the rulebook of the big box game he just bought.
