The role of Lara Croft is played well, but many of the other characters were quite forgettable. Kudos to Alicia Vikander for bringing a more relatable aspect to the role than previous outings have shown. I did wish she didn’t spend half of the film hanging from things by her fingertips though.
There are also far too many similarities to Indiana Jones, particularly The Last Crusade, which is a shame. I was hoping this would be Indiana Jones with boobs but instead they ripped it off a bit too much for my liking and I spent a lot of the film reciting Indiana Jones quotes which were totally relevant to the on screen action.
All in all, lots of running, jumping and punching and entertaining for a few hours, but also quite forgettable.

It's fair to say that this has permeated popular culture: the bullwhip, the hat, the fear of snakes are all intrinsic to the character and heavily copied over the years (Tomb Raider, anyone? The Uncharted series?), with even TVs The Simpsons doing a parody of the opening tomb robbing scene with Homer chasing Bart and ending up rolling down the stairs.
There's almost too many iconic scenes (and quotes) to count: that tomb robber bit at the start, the fed-up Indy shooting the sword-wielder in Cairo (initially storyboarded as a full on sword fight, except the actors all got sick), the Well of Souls sequence, the escape, "It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage", the opening of the Ark by the Nazis and the final warehouse scene, to name but a few!

This is a romance book, a self-help book, full of humour, situations, trials and tribulations and friendship. And don't forget tea or coffee with cake! This book will make you laugh and will also make you cry. There was one bit (that I won't ruin) that came as a shock to me and what followed had me snuffling into my tissues. The very human characters in this book face their inner (and sometimes outer) demons and do it with the love and friendship of others and their own strengths that they don't even realise that they have.
Wonderful writing, with a twist, that completely drew me in. Made me laugh, made me cry and gave me more than a few good self-help quotes.
