Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated One Fell Sweep (Innkeeper Chronicles, #3) in Books
Jan 7, 2021
This one starts with a bang, almost literally, as a boom bike rides through their small town to deliver a message to Dina. A message from her sister, who she hasn't seen for years, asking for help. Not to mention the arrival of a Hiru, a peaceful race that has been hunted for generations because of their ugly exterior, to the inn seeking sanctuary.
There was a lot of action in this one, it seemed to never stop, and I was getting very eager for everything to come to a head. So many things were going on, I didn't want to stop reading.
Things progressed between Dina and Sean. Old friends showed up to help when things went awry. We had some really cute scenes with little Helen, Dina's niece.
I liked a lot of this book. It is my favourite of the series so far and I cannot wait to continue it to see more of this band of friends and guests.
>P.S. I also feel like I should mention the artwork included in this book. The drawings of Dina and Shaun and Maud and Helen... All amazing.

LeftSideCut (3776 KP) rated Species II (1998) in Movies
Sep 21, 2020
It obviously has a bigger budget this time around, the spaceships in the opening shots look pretty decent (even if they are plastered with product placement), it's has noticeably more gore, more nudity, more tentacles flying out of nipples, more Marg Helgenberger, more full body shots of the aliens, but have no doubt, this sequel is the epitome of guilty pleasure trash - it's obviously a bad film, but is so much goddam fun.
The bad CGI is a slight improvement on the first film, but I can respect the numerous practical effects in use, and the aliens seen near the end look both silly and quite horrific (good old H.R. Giger). The dialogue leaves a lot to be desired, but when you have lines like "They could fuck the human race into extinction" being thrown around, it hard to not ironically enjoy yourself.
Ultimately, Species II is a worse film than it's predecessor (which is hardly a masterpiece in the first place) but it's loud, dumb, gory, sci-fi action that equates to that age old saying - it's so bad, it's kind of good.

Joe Goodhart (27 KP) rated Doctor Who: The Death of Art in Books
Nov 30, 2020
Jump ahead to now, I have been re-visiting key 7th Doctor NAs (sorry, but anyone who thinks NuWHO is groundbreaking or mentally stimulating, needs to read some of these and re-evaluate that statement. Just steer clear of this one!). This one was next on my list, as I wanted to give it a second chance, as my mind is so much more freer these days.
Unfortunately, my original opinion still stands for me: this book is rubbish! The beginning is interesting, but then goes so far out of the loop with that Chapter about alien race the Quoth. When Simon Bucher-Jones is on his game, he is A-MAZ-ING, not unlike Brian Michael Bendis when he writes his own creations, but when he sucks like this? PEEEEE-YOOOO!
By all means, do not waste any time, energy, etc. trying to endure this! Your mind will hate for years to come!
