Odd disturbing film
A strange film with not much of a plot or explanation as to what is going on, although some might like this more because of that. It's a very gritty, raw, rather bleak film as a couple of psycho's decide to play some not so funny games with a family in a holiday home. You just need to watch a comedy after to lift your mood!

I enjoyed Marriage Story, for as much as one can enjoy that type of situation. It was frustrating and heartbreaking, and had some funny spots thrown in. It was a raw story of a family going through a divorce. (Granted, it was a family that had access to money for bulldog legal teams, so it was both, "easy," and ugly.) Adam Driver was great in his role as Charlie.

"This is a film that every year becomes more and more timely. On a sociopolitical level, its struggle of a people to win national identity against an oppressive regime is the ongoing story of our times. Its raw visual camera technique is in perfect synchronicity with the digital aesthetic of much contemporary filmmaking. Even now, it justifies its up-front disclaimer that not a foot of it is “documentary.”"

"Brando and Kazan. If there is some pearly gates studio, many of the films being shown at the Angelic Cinematheques will have these heavyweights working together. Urban poetry, raw and unrestrained masculinity, a heightened method of “real” acting. The kind of picture that really pulls you in, forces all the senses to work in tandem. Hypnotic and earthy, the real stuff of cinema, electrolysis of the rough and the holy."

"When I graduated from high school, I worked at a video store in Philadelphia with an extensive selection of international films. La promesse became one of my first favorites because of the real, raw quality of the acting and the Dardenne brothers’ brave and unflinching look at racism and prejudice. When I rewatched the film recently, it felt especially meaningful given the ongoing plight of migrants around the world today."

This story was so sad, but it made me more angry than anything. Just the thought of what happened all those years ago, the devastation and horror, honestly gets my blood boiling. As depressing as this it was, for Sarah and Julia, I didn't cry, which was what I wanted, but I was still moved. The ending felt lackluster, yet it was real, raw, so any other ending wouldn't have fit.

A truly great read. The books devels into a very raw topic, that seriously divides people and shows both sides of the arguement, the thoughts of those pro choice and those pro life, while at the same time telling a wonderful and moving story that really engages the reader. I couldn't put this down
