The Devil Next Door
The Devil Next Door
2019 | Documentary, History
When I saw this miniseries on Netflix, I was actually looking forward to it. I have read the Nazi Next Door, which featured this dude in the majority of the book. Since I had only read that book, from the perspective of the Nazi Hunters themselves, I was fairly sold that this dude was indeed Ivan the Terrible.
However, now, I'm not so sure. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't. Obviously, there's a possibility, but now I'm not sure. I do believe that the dude was at least a guard at a Nazi camp.
While this was interesting, towards the end, it grew repetitive. Which is always a death knell for me, and always causes me to rate items lower.

I started reading this series when I was 10/11 and I really enjoyed reading about the boy genius/semi-evil mastermind. I guess you could say we grew up together. I read books 1-6 pretty much as soon as they came out, enjoying Artemis' adventures. I'm now 25, and my tastes have changed quite a bit, which means Artemis is now a good 10 years younger than me and I don't enjoy his adventures as much. I'm glad that all the gang returned for the story and all. I do feel a need to finish the series and I do own the eighth and last book in the series, so I will finish it at some point but it won't be my next read.

I have to admit, I hated this book when I first read it. I was a victim of forced reading in my seventh grade class and I definitely hated anything that I was forced to read.

I was a little hesitant to reread this book for my book club but I am definitely glad that I did. This book was really interesting. There were many things that I didn't understand when I first read it that now resound with me. The characters are intriguing and this definitely paints a picture of what society used to be like.

If you're looking for a racially charged book that makes your question society, this is the book for you. It forces you to look at a society that we all try and hide from. I'm glad that I reread it.

I bought a classic book for the family. I did not read it while growing up. However, I have heard of it. It's called "Where Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak. I knew about this book and heard of it. Why I never read it is beyond me. I have not read it and reviewed it now.

It is adventurous and playful. Max travels to a faraway place that has Wild Things. I wonder if this book plot is imagination or something that lets the little boy discover what it is like to be lonely after a while. Also, learn that loved ones still care even if you have to wait. The food will still be hot when you return.

I am not sure. However, the pictures are well done. I do enjoy the images. I do not get the plot of this story; that might be me; it is a cute book nonetheless. Will Max have fun with the wild things, or will he return home to his bedroom?

Some children will enjoy these books, and parents will want to read and reread this classic book for their children. You may like this for your child's bookshelves as well. The images are superb and colorful, that is for sure.

It did not go down the way I thought it would and I loved that it didn't.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

I was surprised by this book, I really was!

It did not go down the way I thought it would and I loved that it didn't. It doesn't END the way I thought it would either, and, after reading, I thought, "yeah, okay, I liked that ending, even if Seamus doesn't get his full happy ever after"

BUT

Then I read book two straight after this but before writing the review, and now I am mighty, MIGHTY pissed at Jadison!

Read them, back to back and you'll see what I mean!

Back to the book. Only Seamus has a say here, and I would like to have heard from It/Mine as Seamus calls the spectre he summoned, but that's just me being greedy. Its only short, some 70 pages, and I read it in one go. It packs a sexy punch though, and poor Seamus does go through the wringer here!

4 stars, not least because I know what happens in book 2!

3.75 stars.

I cried a fair bit near the end of this one. I think it was the long unrequited love from Manda. It just kinda got to me.

But it was with ladies man Preston, and he'd been growing on me over the past couple of books and I'd been looking forward to this one. I'm glad everything worked out in the end for them.

Now do I read more Abbi Glines? Or something else?

I finally got around to finishing this, and if I'm honest I can't decide if I'm happy about the end bit of this volume. I may have wanted it to happen but I don't feel happy about it now that it has. I feel sorry for Ren-kun. And as for Andou and his confession, I'm kinda torn about that too.

Oh, I need to read more to find out what happens next with this group.

I actually couldn't get into this one, which is unusual considering I liked the start of Nick and Spencer's story. I'm not sure what it was about it but I got rather bored and just skipped through bits--mostly the Nick with clients/johns--but also some of the sex scenes, which doesn't really leave much that I did read.

I have been enjoying the series up till now and I will be continuing it at some point.

Fourth book I've now read in this series and I'd say I liked this one the least and probably won't read any more. In this one particularly there was much less focus on the 'mystery' part and more on other goings on. There are also things at the end that don't seem quite tied up - ~I've had that before where some bits are picked up at the beginning of the new book, but it means that these don't stand alone very well. Yes, it's good to read a series, but if someone picks up in the middle this makes it more tricky.

The Royal Spyness books by the same author I've read some of, but I think those are a bit more humorous and these are a bit more gritty and violent.
