So I had to read this for myself after hearing all of the mixed reviews of it. I was thinking it was going to be a lot different. I could relate a lot to this book, which is why I think I liked it so much, but it had nothing to do with the BDSM or the sex. Just their relationship as a whole. I tend to be a generally shy person when it comes to the opposite sex, and so I could understand how it was difficult for Anastasia(ANA) to discuss her feelings with Christian and send them through email instead. I am the same way. I was intrigued by their relationship because I wanted to see if he was going to bend his rules for her. They both made compromises in who they were for the other, and isn't that what a relationship is about. So, now, I can't wait to see what happen next. Anyone got book 2 on Kindle I can borrow??

I should have learned by now that I just dont like anything this woman writes. A hot cover does not make up for a uninteresting plot and unexciting erotic scenes.
I gives Brooks props for having a plot in the first place. Very few erotic authors even attempt it anymore. However, it wasnt a plot that interested me. Max going after the piece of tail that got away? Eh. Elisa hiding because of some tabloids and ending up getting the man she wanted in high school. Meh
The erotic scenes would have been good, if they hadnt all been the same! It was like Brooks copy and pasted the scenes periodically throughout the book. There was no variety.
And I guess I just skipped the part where they fall in love, because when it ended, I was left sitting there asking When did that happen? I cant say its the worst I have read, but it could have been a lot better.

This is the final book in the series. As such it wraps up all of the storylines that have been running through the last 5 books.
It is nice to see the conclusion of all of the stories for the characters after their struggles instead of just being left with the idealistic hope that everything they planned at 18 has now happened.
Personally I really disliked the ending, this is because it was written as a series of news updates from an unknown narrator every time a big event happened. For me having spent 12 books getting to know these characters I wanted these events from their perspective so we could know their thoughts and feelings. It just felt a bit impersonal after all the emotional investment up to that point.
That being said I would completely recommend this series abs I totally love it and am contemplating a third read of it which is incredibly rare for me, I am not a re reader.

I'm not entirely sure how I rate this book if I'm honest. I really can't work out what to make of it.
I felt the writing was over done and quite clumpy; the hints dropped as to where the story was heading were far from subtle and, therefore, there wasn't any surprising twists; I couldn't buy into the reasonings or behaviors of the characters; and certain parts of the story had me a little creeped out.
BUT
I zapped through it, enjoyed the 'aww' moments, didn't much mind having my predictions proved right and am now feeling the urge to continue onto book 2.
I don't know what it is this book has, but it certainly has something.
Graphic books such as this rest outside of my reading comfort zone. I took a leap with it and have nothing even remotely similar in my bookshelf history to compare it to. So...yeah...enjoyable read in a bizarre kind of undefinable way.

I really enjoyed this. It was everything I like; a mystery, a romance, witty.
I was really intrigued by Chris/Kit and J.X.'s history together. Why were they so hostile to each other? It was slowly explained throughout and I kind of melted reading about their three nights together all those years ago and the feelings involved. Awww...
There was one scene fairly early on between them that made me all warm and fuzzy, until it was over and then I wanted to smack someone--mainly J.X.
As for the murder mystery, I would never have figured it out. I knew it was a man, and not Chris/Kit so was left with three possibilities. I didn't want to think it was J.X. either so that left two but then I was completely stumped.
I'm now going onto book 2 so I can read more of these two!

It was ok and I liked it but it could have been so much better. I think it lacked a little personality the characters were a little flat. It was a quick ok to good read with masses of potential.

Abbott Savage is very mercurial. But one constant in his life has been his love for London. He loves her so much that he knows he's not right for her. Giving her to his best friend, Kyle. Now Kyle has died and London is pregnant with his child. What is Abbott to do? He doesn't want anyone else to take care of London, but he has so many demons in his past, he's not sure if he can take care of her himself.

I read the book quite some time ago, so knew the concept of the series but needed a little gentle reminder of the world we are exploring.
The series is very stylish with excellent dream sequences and imagery throughout, a la Hannibal, however at times I felt this dominated the actual storytelling somewhat.
With something like Hannibal, you don't need to worry about the story too much, people get killed, someone is doing it, twists and turns and suspect caught. So it was right for the focus of that series to be on the imagery rather than the telling.
However, here I think the story and concept are quite hard to get used to initially (and I don't think it really gets nailed at all during the series) and more should have been done to explain it. I'm not saying everything needs laid out neatly with a little bow on, but I think the style needed toned down a little and more effort invested in explaining the world. It felt a little bit like a TV show made for people who have just read the book.
The cast is excellent and it is an enjoyable watch, but a lot of people will struggle to get the hang of it (and may only stick with it in order to say they did rather than because they enjoyed it!).
With such a cult classic book as the source material, I think there were high expectations for it, which may not have been met (mine weren't, sadly).

Squared Away (Out of Uniform #5) by Annabeth Albert
Squared Away is the fifth book in the Out of Uniform series, but can be read as a standalone, as I did. However, I must say that now I have found out what an exceptional writer Annabeth Albert is, it won't be the last book of hers I read!
Isaiah is a bit of a 'flirt', and at eighteen he decides he is going to lose his V-card to a SEAL at his brother's wedding. However Mark, the SEAL, isn't interested in just being 'someone' to sleep with, and so tells Isaiah he isn't gay or interested. He then manages to avoid Isaiah for the next five years, although he still hears about Isaiah's exploits. Trust me, he is no longer a card-carrying member! These two get thrown together by tragedy, and are both left in charge of three children. This story revolves around the decisions they make, and how they learn to love and live together, whilst loving three mini-humans who demand so much time.
Squared Away is a complex love story that goes so slow it is completely and utterly scintillating. I wondered how it would work with Isaiah's reputation, but it was simply amazing. Yes, his reputation bites him in the ass, but with Mark, he goes slow - and it is beautiful. There are reasons for this as Mark is demisexual. We find out exactly what this means for Mark, and the struggles he has, both with it and with being scared to want more with Isaiah. Oh man, this is so good. I mean, seriously! The chemistry between these two melted my kindle, and I loved every word. It is heart-breaking, it is beautiful.
With no editing or grammatical errors that I noticed, Squared Away is an exceptional story, told by a brilliant author. Her style of writing is realistic, with plenty of complex emotions and situations. Life doesn't always go smoothly, but it can be worth the effort you put in to a difficult situation. Absolutely amazing, and I am now putting more books by this author on my T-B-R list! You'd be a fool not to read this one.

HIDDEN REALM is the first book in the Legends of Lightning series, and I was really looking forward to it.
What I got was a fantasy with elements of Brothers Grimm and all their original fairy tales. Now, it DOES say it is dark, so please pay attention to that if you have any triggers.
Esther is content (as far as she seems possible to be) with her life, but it takes a strange turn when she starts to manifest injuries from her dreams. She does a minimum amount of digging and decides to pack up her life and travel to a different realm.
There is a LOT of violence and rape is inferred on what felt like every page. Due to this, the impact of it lessened with each repeat. The emotional connection with the main characters was also lacking for me. I felt more for one of the supporting characters when his family died than I did for Esther or Oisin.
Just a quick heads up - prepare yourself for whiplash as Esther's emotions change course on a dime.
There is a lot of potential to this story with plenty of intrigue and twists to keep your attention. It does need tightening up in places, but on the whole, it was a good read. I am engaged enough to want to know what happens to Esther and Oisin now.
