Hazel (2934 KP) rated Conviction in Books
Jun 11, 2023
This is a really good legal thriller that had me flicking my Kindle screen at break-neck speed to find out what further twists were to be revealed.
Neve is a top lawyer so when she is handed the case of defending Wade Darling after his original barrister jumped in front of a train, she sees the opportunities open before her to make her name as a top barrister. Unfortunately, she has a secret that she is desperate to keep hidden but someone knows and threatens to reveal it if she doesn't lose the trial. What should she do? Throw the trial and destroy herself or defend her client to the best of her ability and threaten not only herself but those she loves?
Conviction is a rollercoaster of a ride that builds and builds with tension, full of twists and turns that had me hanging on every page not knowing what was going to happen next. Full of great characters and written at a fast pace, I would recommend to lovers of great thrillers and courtroom dramas.
Definitely one of my reads of 2023 and thanks must go to Simon & Schuster UK and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of Conviction.

ClareR (5885 KP) rated My Good Bright Wolf in Books
Mar 30, 2025
I knew that My Good Bright Wolf was a memoir, it says it is in the title after all, but when I started reading it, I thought I’d downloaded the wrong book. I’m a lover of fairytales, and this memoir reads as such in places, especially as it’s written in the 3rd person. This also seems to create a distance between the author and their story.
At its heart is Moss’ battle with anorexia. After reading about her childhood and her parents, it would be unrealistic to think that both of these factors had nothing to do with her eating disorder. In fact, some of her most intrusive thoughts have her parents voices.
Throughout is Moss’ love of literature, and how the books she read - the girls and women that they portrayed - influenced her self-worth.
This is a story of how women are policed, constrained and ultimately how they are treated in illness. It’s also a story of never feeling that you’re good enough and a lack of control over everything - except the control over what you put in your body.
This really is a stunning, shocking, very emotional memoir, and it reinforces to me what an exceptional author Sarah Moss is.

Alison Pink (7 KP) rated The Perfect Death (Detective John Stallings #3) in Books
Jan 15, 2018
Let me begin by saying that this book introduced me to a wonderful author who I can not wait to read more of!! I love when I can say that about any book, especially a book that I won from First Reads!
The Perfect Death was non-stop action & suspense from page one. It truly started off to hook the reader & it worked for me! The plot felt incredibly real particularly the parts dealing with the Jacksonville Sheriffs & how police handle investigations. The fascinating part was not how the characters handled the police work, but how they interacted with each other. It seemed like a real life workplace with honest to God co-workers.
The plot itself deals with a serial killer who has been on the hunt in North Florida. He finds young, naive victims & strangles them with a cord. As the story continues you find out that he is using them to complete his "work of art." He is a glass blower & blows jars in which he traps his victims' last breaths before he proceeds to strangle them to death.
This book is a fascinating look into real police work & the mind of a serial killer. A person no one thought to take a second glance at until it was too late. I really do look forward to reading more from this author in the future!!!

Like Bibles, I can never get enough of Daily Devotionals. When this one came up to review, I was super happy. I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. The cover is super eye catching and the devotionals within are just what I need to read.

Each day, there is a theme, a bible verse to accompany the theme, a devotional to read and then concludes with a prayer to say. I love that. I feel like my walk with God will improve with this devotional. The devotionals are wonderful and seem to be just what I need to hear/see.

This is definitely worth high recommendations. Ms. Moore created a wonderful, 4 star daily devotional collection that I will use on a daily basis. I'll be sharing this with lots of my friends and family and I hope that you will too! This review was originally posted on Cafinated Reads

Molly J (Cover To Cover Cafe) (106 KP) rated The Captain's Daughter in Books
Feb 25, 2019
Ms. Delamere has a new fan in me! I am really glad I took the chance on this book (I almost passed it up as I wasn't sure if I would like it or not!). Ms. Delamere has a wonderful talent for quickly capturing her readers' hearts and her attention to historical detail in London was beautifully done.
From the start, I was wrapped up in Rosalyn's story. I was on the streets of London with her, feeling her feelings as if they were my own. The life on stage was vibrantly created and I loved the way the book blossomed into a play itself before my eyes. When Nate was introduced, my heart swooned for him! I loved his character! When he and Rosalyn interacted, I was rooting for them the whole way through the book!
I highly recommend this 4 star book. It's a story of finding where you belong, a story of hope and faith, and God's guiding light. If you want a book that will capture you, wrap you up in a wonderful adventure of theater and falling in love, then grab a copy of this book! This review was originally posted on Cafinated Reads

Molly J (Cover To Cover Cafe) (106 KP) rated My Heart Belongs on Mackinac Island: Maude’s Mooring in Books
Feb 27, 2019
Oh my word! I absolutely adored Carrie Fancett Pagels' work. She is fantabulous with creating her characters in a richly detailed way. The beautiful detail she added to the backdrop of the story really made me feel as though I was on the breathtaking Mackinac Island.
Maude and Ben, and even Jack, quickly stole my heart. Sweet little Jack had me smiling more than once! The betrayal that Maude feels when she sees her "intended" married to another woman, was quickly felt in my heart. But, when she "runs" into Ben, the sparks were there and I loved watching their story unfold.
Ms. Pagels fills this novel with wonderful descriptions to make the story blossom before the reader. The messages from God of forgiveness, hope, faith and love are woven perfectly throughout. This wonderfully chiseled,4 star book kept me turning the pages long into the night and I highly recommend it to all historical fiction lovers! The characters, the plot line, the messages will all steal your heart and take you on a whirl wind right through Mackinac Island, leaving you wanting more. Visiting Mackinac Island is now at the top of my bucket list thanks to Ms. Pagels! This review was originally posted on Cafinated Reads

If you are looking for a closer walk with God, then please, look no further than this book. It is a book that is well written, and well organized. The aspects of this book are wonderful and really leave the reader thinking things through. Each page is different, each page helping you to understand a little more about God and what you need to do to truly listen to Him, to hear Him out, and make yourself a better person for Him.
The way The Good Book is laid out makes it easy to follow. I understand things a little differently now, in a good way, of course. Mr. Spoo has created a wonderful book, filled with truth and information that will be with the reader long after they finish. This book has verses from the Bible with each chapter and leaves it open for a great discussion and break down of the Bible!
This is a definitely worthy of beyond 5 stars. It’s a great companion to the Bible and and will make a great addition to any Bible study or library collection. Don’t miss out on this great book! This review was originally posted on Cafinated Reads

I love Christmas, and I love a good cozy mystery and this book has both! Ms. Griep has talented hands and created a story that not only captured me instantly, but kept me hooked on this book the entire time. Her twists and turns, her characters, her messages woven through out the book, truly made for a wonderful, one sitting read!
Clara and Ben are chiseled wonderfully for their roles. Clara, stood up at the altar, and Ben, the one who caused the pain. I wanted to throttle Ben a time or two but if he wasn't the way he was, I wouldn't have loved the story half as much! These two come to life among the walls of Bleakly Manor and the story unfolds in a most fascinating way!
I definitely recommend this book to all who want a wonderful, clean romantic story, that is pieced together among a Christmas mystery. It's 4 star worthy and one of my favorite Christmas stories of 2017! I am looking forward to adding the print version to my keeper shelf and to reading more amazing books like this in the future from the talented Michelle Griep! Bravo!

Molly J (Cover To Cover Cafe) (106 KP) rated Israel - God's Heart in Books
Feb 27, 2019
I loved this little book! It's full of beautiful, vibrant pictures and I can't say enough how much I loved looking at all of them. It's not a big book, small and perfect for your end table or coffee table. God's beautiful land in Israel is wonderfully portrayed in this eye catching book.
With pictures taken of history, sometimes on land and sometimes aerial, this book gives the reader some Scripture and details about the pictures to coincide. As I looked through this wonderful little book, I felt like I was able to visit the Holy Land without leaving my home. It was so beautiful to see. God's Heart is a wonderful way to describe what I saw in the pages of this book.
This is definitely a 4 star book that I would recommend to those who love pictures of different places. The photos are crisp and detailed, leaving you feeling as though you are the one that took the picture, like you are the one that was there. I would love to see more books like this one to lay out so my guests can enjoy them as much as me! This review was originally posted on Cafinated Reads
