Let's start off by I love the name of the book and the blue color palette on the cover. Blue makes it very pretty and anything that says "Siren" catches my intrest. Even though it's not about that I'm glad I read it. This book is about Luli Wei a beautiful talented wanting to be a star in pre-code Hollywood. In it she knows how the movie business can be very dangerous but she doesn't seem to be bothered by this. She also prefers to play a monster rather than a maid. She learns the worst monsters of all are not on screen but rather in reality around her in Hollywood. She also learns success always comes with a very steep price to pay and it's never lovely. This book caught my attention from the beginning and is well written. It has an interesting story plot and is one book I'd definitely reccomend. Also, reality is just sad.

I don't think I ever really listened to a rap song by Ice-T. I really enjoy him on Law & Order: SVU and I like his reality show with his wife. So I thought I would give the book a listen. I learned a lot of interesting things about him and made me like him a little more. If you have followed Ice-T, you probably know all this stuff, but it was interesting for me to find out about his background.

This book is wonderfully relevant...

Honestly, I downloaded this book with two expectations. 1) As a Crusie book, it would be hilarious and well-written. 2) The subject is quite similar to my current reality. Not only did it meet these two expectations, but it surpassed them. Women who struggle with the thought that they are too old and too imperfect to find love, and certainly not with a man ten years her junior, will be reminded that perfection and love aren't compatible.

Creative and Realistically Horrific

So many people can't get past the issue of race which is a key element in this movie. But looking at the bigger picture...this could be a reality for ANYONE regardless of race or religion. Forget traditional slavery. That's terrifying in it's own way. But this movie proposes a realistic idea of society that will keep you up at night to avoid bigger nightmares that Freddy, Jason, or Michael ever caused.
