Clea DuVall recommended Tootsie (1982) in Movies (curated)

Tootsie (1982)
1982 | Comedy, Drama

"I watched this movie dozens of times as a kid. I could not get enough of Bill Murray at that kitchen table. I don’t think this movie could be made today. Any movie whose story is even remotely similar becomes a joke. But while Tootsie is very, very funny, it is not a joke. Dustin Hoffman’s commitment to his portrayal of Michael Dorsey/Dorothy Michaels turns something that could have just been silly into a grounded and relatable story about the challenges of being not only an artist but also a human being."

Relaxing- like to watch this before going to bed. (0 more)
A little bit niche in that its set during a normal every day kind of plotline- probably not something everyone would enjoy especially if they do prefer action. (0 more)
Reminds me of friends in that its all very chill with a sense of camaraderie only Kim’s convenience is focused on blood relatives. None the less this show is really good to relax to when your fed up of all the action packed dramas. I also found the family dynamic really relatable which was fun.

Impossible To Not Listen To
Since I heard 'Ciao Adios', Anne-Marie had me hooked. I was so excited when I heard about her debut album 'Speak Your Mind'. Since it was released in April, I have not stopped listening to it. The songs are catchy, relatable and I can't help but sing and dance along to them whenever I hear them. Her song-writing skills and vocal abilities are amazing and I think she is one of the best female pop artists at the moment. I would say that she is up there with Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato, whose songs are amazing and vocals are incredible also. The only downside to this album, is that there are a couple of songs I am not such a fan of: 'Can I Get Your Number' and 'Some People'. If I heard them, I would listen to them and maybe even sing along, but I do prefer her other songs and feel that these two are the weakest on the album. Overall, this album is amazing and I don't think I'm going to stop listening to it anytime soon.

Strong female characters that are easily relatable in one way or another. I couldn't put this book down and when I did, I found myself thinking about it and unable to concentrate on anything else. (0 more)
Gritty, gripping with a perfect plot
I've read big little lies and knew how Liane Moriarty liked to base the plot around a number of strong female characters that captivate and draw you fully into the story. 'My husband's secret' was no different! This book kept me hooked from start to finish, I literally couldn't put it down at times and spent a couple of nights without much sleep as I kept saying 'one more chapter'. It took me three days to read this spell bounding novel. When I had to function in the real world, I found that I was thinking about what could possibly happen next in the book. I'm not going to give anything Away with 'spoilers' but let's just say that if you like a dark and gritty book full of twists and turns, strong relatable characters with passionate backgrounds, then this is the book for you. I've just started 'truly, madly, guilty' written by Liane Moriarty and I'm hoping it's going to be just as good. I have found a new great author!

As a self-confessed DC lover, I was surprised just how much I loved this film. The characters are believable, relatable and on the whole likable. Over the course of the movie you develop a kind of bond with the main characters, which adds tragedy to the end of the main story arch. The one complaint I have would be that Red Skull is Captain America's equivalent to Batman's Joker and to remove him from any following story arch seems like a waste of good material.

Just Bad
There's so much they could have done with this movie. They missed the opportunity to make a really great film. There is practically no characterization. Characters are flat archetypes; no one is real and relatable. The concept is interesting and has the ability to be a deep and complex film. I started watching the anime a little while back and stopped because the 'anime' style storytelling is off-putting. I was interested by the premise and really wanted to watch a good re-telling of the story. I was sorely disappointed.

is not as feel good as some songs on his debut album: prepare to feel sad (0 more)
harrowing and beautiful in equal measures, this is one of my favourite second albums of all time. Ben Howard takes an incredibly dark direction in his second album, drawing upon some of the deeper, sadder, darker themes that had crept into his debut album but here confronts the darkness head on

Thor Ragnarok
Out of all the Thor movies released to date, Ragnarok is my favorite. Before Thor just was either simply annoying to me or wasnt able to hold my attention. Ragnarok begins fleshing out of his character. He may be a god, but his flaws and foibles make him more realistic and relatable. We get to see his struggles. We get to see facets of his sense of humor. Oh, and he makes fight scenes EPIC.
