I cried. A lot.

It's been a little while since I've actually read the book since I've made myself sit in it for some time. Whether I felt an attachment to the themes that are explored in the book, or if I was just particularly emotional on the days I was reading it, I certainly think this was one of the most heartfelt books I've ever read.
My original attraction to the book came from hearing what a fantastic LGBT+ story it was - something that always catches my attention when I'm grasping for some kind of representation. It lived up to all of my expectations. It started a bit slow, seeing as I'm usually one for adventure and fantasy, but once I got into the book and the manner that Saenz writes, I couldn't put it down. As the heading might suggest, it certainly cried, especially towards the end of the book.
If you want a book that explores love and relationships, familial, platonic, and romantic, I would highly suggest picking up this book. Hopefully, people will read this book at the right time in their lives to be able to have this book effect them as positively as it has me.

im really glad it was so positive for you I'll have to buy it when I go out shopping. Id recommend you watch sense 8 on Netflix it's such a good series

Bob makes everyone happy!

I found this documentary on the Bob Ross phenomenon on Amazon Prime and it is worth checking out.

It tells you a lot of Bob's childhood, his relationships with his parents, children and wives and his rise to fame doing what he loved best, painting. His passion was demonstrating the "wet on wet" technique he learned at a young age and teaching it to others. He argued anyone could learn to paint quickly and easily using the techniques he was teaching.

The documentary shows some of his appearances on other TV programs of the time like Live with Regis and Kathie Lee, John Rivers and Phil Donahue. It also talks about his love of animals and how he used to treat and care for them.

One of the points mentioned I thought was interesting was only about 3% of the viewing audience tuned in and actually painted along with Bob. The vast majority just tuned in because they enjoyed his calming voice, big hair and his colorful vernacular.

What a great talent Bob Ross was and he died way too young. I still watch his show almost every night before I go to bed as it is a great way to end the day.

My eldest son is constantly drawing and painting, and found videos of Bob Ross on YouTube. I put the blame squarely at the door of Bob Ross for the state of my sons clothes and bedroom furniture - covered in oil paints!!! Kept him quiet and out of trouble for a while though I suppose 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 If I'm feeling brave during the school summer holidays, I’ll point him towards this if he’s at a loose end!! Oh, and I’ve ‘hidden’ the oil paints 🤫

New twist to the classic dystopians

Trigger Warning: Graphic gore, death, suicidal thoughts, torture.

When Rebecca approached me about reading A Touch of Death, I have to admit I was a little apprehensive. Dystopian is one of those genres that has been so overly saturated that nothing seems to be fresh. Luckily, my apprehension was unwarranted.

A Touch of Death is one of those books that will grab you the second you start reading it. This dystopian sci-fi novel grabbed me almost instantly. The plot was exciting and gave us a nice twist to the classic dystopian books. I liked all of the elements present, and they seemed to work pretty well together.

The main characters Kitty & Nate, were fascinating. I liked seeing how they interacted, and I loved the bit of bickering too. It did take me some time to warm up to both characters. I never seemed to connect to either of them, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the book. The relationships in the book were interesting to watch evolve, and I liked seeing how both Kitty & Nate changed throughout the book.

All in all, I enjoyed the book. I would have liked to connect more with the characters, but this was a solid 4 star read for me!

Obviously, this is a difficult subject to read about. However, it was told in the girl's point of view, and it really brought to light how she comprehended the situation, even when she was being abused. I liked the fact that there were opposing sides in this situation represented in the story, without dragging either side through the mud. I also really appreciated the fact that the author didn't do a sudden turn ending, like saying it was a dream or something. I can't stand that. She held true to the actual story all the way through the novel. It's a story about a young woman that had a sexual affair with her teacher when she was 15, however, the things that happened, emotionally, are relatable to many other types of poisonous relationships. Not just a man with a minor. I appreciated all of that, because it was much easier to be inside the story that way. As difficult as the subject matter was, it is a smooth read, and if you've ever been in any sort of toxic relationship like this, you might be able to relate to a lot of the feelings. Even if you haven't, it's worth reading! It's a well-crafted story about a taboo subject.
