Sweetwater ( The Kihn book 1)
By Rivi Jacks

They say you can never go home again that what we remember, is just that—a memory. Well, I’m on my way home, and I’m eager to test that theory. Little do I know that what awaits me will change my life forever.

Sofie Reece is returning to Sweetwater, a sleepy little town nestled in the Ozarks to discover evil waiting for her. As supernatural beings, both good and evil, arrive in town, so does Lucas Santiago. Sofie senses a danger in Lucas but finds herself powerfully attracted to him. Though intimidated by his sexual appeal and power, she cannot help but fall for Lucas. As both the danger and their passion intensify, Sofie is unaware that Lucas has a dark secret – a secret that will blow her world apart…

I loved it!! It was so addictive to read and unlike what I’ve read before. The supernatural element is not always forefront in the story which I found I liked. The different relationships in this book are just brilliant from the best friends and family to the romantic relationships. I’m so looking forward to the next book.

"I guess the next one would be Naked, by Mike Leigh. Mike Leigh might be my favorite living filmmaker. A lot has been said about his working method, you know. He spends about six months with his actors basically finding the characters and improvising and building these relationships. Then after that, he’ll go off and write a script based on the improvisations that took place over those six months. It results in some of the most vivid character work I’ve ever seen. The relationships in his films are so rich, and you just feel so much history there. That’s because the history has really been built. It really exists. But what people don’t really talk much about is just how wonderful a craftsman he is. His films are gorgeous and they’re beautifully made. I mean, his work with Dick Pope is just incredible, and they’re all so impeccably structured. So, I just think he’s made so many masterpieces. I toggled between Naked and Topsy-Turvy and Secrets and Lies being my favorite. But right now, Naked is the one that is coming to me."

Aphrodite in Phoenicia Rogerson’s book is a woman wronged. Is it common knowledge that Aphrodite isn’t your run of the mill goddess? I won’t say why, but she’s a bit special in this, and it sets her apart from the other gods and goddesses on Mount Olympus. Whatever she lacks in powers, she makes up with her ability to talk men into doing what she wants by using her femininity and cunning.
And I don’t blame her for one minute.

She comes across as an incredibly likeable character, while the other gods, and in particular Zeus, really are not.

Aphrodite is written in such an approachable way, and I particularly enjoyed the humour. Her relationships with other gods and Titans, her role in fate, and her frequent return to it long after it had been passed on to others, were fascinating. Aphrodite’s relationships with Zeus, Hephaestus, Ares and her son Eros gave a human slant to her life, which was messy, complicated and full of mistakes she couldn’t avoid making.

I’ve never watched any of the Real Housewives programmes, but I imagine that a series from Mount Olympus would feature A LOT of Aphrodite!
