Rickey A. Mossow Jr. (689 KP) rated Breakthrough (2019) in Movies

Good movie. Recommend for believers and non-believers alike.
This movie was a pleasant surprise. Ending up watching it on a whim with my sister who loves any movie based on a true story. And, yes, while the film is very heavy-handed with the religious propaganda, it's understandable given the film's circumstances. Truly a very emotionally gripping story led by a truly outstanding performance by Chrissy Metz. Seriously, she carries the film and acts her butt off. The rest of the surprisingly all-star cast play their role well. Would definitely recommend for believers and non-believers alike.

I have always loved the writing of Mitch Albom. I have not been very religious or spiritual but in the past year I have been trying to expand and understand this level of beliefs. The writing had me hoping that Heaven existed rather than what it just being a human created reality.

The best known novel that people have never read.

This is the number one work of literature (except from the Christian Bible) that people have heard of but never read. This is due to the controversy it caused when it was published, which resulted in the author receiving death threats (or a fatwa) by the Muslim community for depicting the prophet Muhammad as a paedophile.
Full of magic realism and fantasy elements, The Satanic Verses is a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions. An absolute must read for the secular and religious communities because it makes one think deeply about religious matters.

Peter G. (247 KP) rated The Book of Eli (2010) in Movies

This post apocalyptic movie although starring the always watchable Denzel divided opinions not because it was a bad film but because of its religious undertones and in my opinion apart from the great fight scenes it was quite a flat story with a below average twist, a one trick pony that I'm not in a hurry to catch again.
Sarah Betts (103 KP) rated River of Fire: My Spiritual Journey in Books
Dec 31, 2019
I received a copy of River of Fire from Random House Publishing Group through Netgalley.
One of the most noticable things about this book is the compassion in which it is written.
This is all that happened before Dead Man Walking (one of my all-time favorite books.)
I am not at all religious but enjoyed it very much.

All time favorite
One of the best revenge stories ever written. I've read a lot of books, both modern and classics, but this one will always be my favorite.
One thing I thought would bother me are the Christian undertones throughout due to being an atheist, but though it was at times very religious, I never found it distracting even after having read it 6 times.

Action packed (2 more)
Suspense
Romance
This is an amazing story! There is the perfect amount of action, suspense and romance right from the start. The characters are faith driven but the religious views weren't excessive. It was refreshing to read something that action packed without it being vulgar in any way. I would recommend this book to anyone. Looking forward to reading more from Jane Choate.
