Tom Turner (388 KP) rated Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3) in Books
Apr 30, 2021
This definitely smoothed some of the crinkles that had been forming in the world building with I mentioned in the reviews o if the previous two Lunar Chronicles books. Unlike Scarlet, this definitely felt like a is best own narrative instead of a bridging narrative. I think it benefitted from us having already met Cress, if only briefly, in one of the previous books. This was not the case with Scarlet. Thankfully, we've already met Winter too, so this won't be an issue with the final book either.

I've never read anything by Bernard Cornwell, but I have heard good things about him.
This probably wasn't the best book of his to start with, I didn't read any reviews prior to starting this. Had I, I probably would have opted out.
The novel is centered around Shakespeare's younger brother, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Richard Shakespeare wasn't a really interesting character, and had an insta-love story, in the middle of the mystery of the stolen plays.
Overall, just meh. Maybe I'll attempt to read something else by Cornwell? Maybe not.

Imagine my surprise when I saw I had read this before! I can't find the edition I read for the second time. I honestly don't remember any of the story, but I'm not sure if it's because this newest addition had reviews and added chapters or not. Either way, I enjoyed the story of Elena and look forward to seeing what's in store for her - I hope happiness, because this poor girl has been through hell at such a young age. I can't wait to watch her grow and mature, then conquer her life.

New story.
Still entertaining. New elements.
Hubs & I went and had an enjoyable time. New aliens, new story. A couple things wowed us. We went in not expecting alot due to early reviews. We left both expressing a good time. It wasn't as new or flashy as the 1st, but it kept our attention. We felt it blended new characters with the old well. You don't go to this movie for intellectual stimulation but doesn't entertainment & it did that job.

I have seen so many bad reviews for this movie, but personally I didn't think it was so bad. The main characters were wooden but I enjoyed the acting from Charlize Theron, Idris Elba and Michael Fassbender. The old person suit/makeup/CGI on the aged Weyland was proper weird and didn't look good at all. It does seem this movie doesn't really know what it is trying to say about the weird black goo either. But the introduction of The Engineers was interesting addition to the world of Alien.

This was my first book by the author and after reading several mixed reviews for this book; some loving it and others saying it was the worst they'd read by her, I was a little wary.
I have to admit though, that I liked the story. It was a rather simple and straight-forward one, I must confess, but the characters were likeable (apart from Addison, I loathed that girl!), very quirky in their ways but it was very sweet.
It wont be the only book I read by the author.
