Obvious but ok
I saw a lot of reviews rating this book quite highly so perhaps that is why I feel it was lacking. The main character is believable and I do love all the various storylines. I like the description of the library, I felt like th cover on my copy left less to the imagination though.

Perhaps this was the point but the story was very obvious. I'm not a philosophy fan so maybe it was supposed to shadow a philosopher?!

Some parts I felt were over described and frankly quite boring. Whereas other parts were lacking in description. Plus I don't think the final couple of chapters were neccessary, certainly the penultimate one.

The copy I have was the perfect hard back with good sized text and spacing.

I wasn't entirely sure what this was about when I got it from Smashwords. If I remember correctly, it had good ratings and reviews on there which is why I downloaded it.

Unfortunately, I didn't really gel with the storyline or the characters. And I'm not too big a fan of lots of sex in a story, unless there's romance involved in it, and considering I was only 28% (2 page turns to a %) in, about 15%--maybe more--of that must have been him looking at her "f*ck me" boots and her body and touching and kissing and wanting to do more. I get that she's got this allure about her but for me there was a little too much lusty stuff and not enough other plot in it up to that bit.

Oh, and it could do with a good editing.

I'll be honest here. The surprise of Raeanne and Kaeleigh being the same person, as in one body with two personalities, was blown for me before I even began reading... Considering I was deliberately looking for books including multiple/split personalities. Perhaps that has a huge effect on how I felt about the book in general, but I suppose I'll never really know. I was pretty bored throughout a majority of the story. I read some reviews that said this was Ellen's most twisted and disturbing book yet, but I guess I'm made of much tougher stuff, because it really didn't bother me. I'm not saying what happened to Kaeleigh is okay, in any way, I'm just saying my reaction wasn't nearly as strong as some others. I felt like there wasn't much in the way of character development, though Ellen made it very easy to despise the father and mother.

This had every likelihood of being a great read for me but for some reason I just didn't get into it. I didn't know it was a sequel/part of a series until reading others reviews on here, maybe it doesn't work as a standalone book for me. I felt the first 250 pages were quite boring and drawn out with unnecessary uses of media e.g. maps of where everything was in the town and social media clippings. I found DI Fawley to be unbelievable and dry, I did wonder if the author realised this and manufactured the change in sarge, which is when the pace subsequently picked up. Segments were too short and it was hard to get into the characters. The storyline was clever and well thought out with lots of twists and turns.
