Eternals (2021)
Eternals (2021)
2021 | Action, Adventure
Now I have to say that there does seem to be some mixed feeling about Eternals upon its initial release and I was a bit dubious upon entering the cinema to check out the film after hearing what “critics” had been saying about the movie, but as with all my reviews, these are my thoughts and as most of you know I do like to give an honest opinion on anything I watch and review.

OK, Eternals is no Avengers, but will we ever get anything that is going to bring us the love that we have all built up with Marvels first three phases, maybe who knows. I found myself enjoying some of the characters more than others. I wasn’t too sure about Dane Whitman (Kit Harrington) but after watching the post-credits scene things are brought to light and it’s looking like we have some exciting times on the way from Marvel Studios in cinemas and coming to Disney+.

Couldn’t get into this at all, and I really wanted to like it as I’ve heard great things about this author. Unfortunately I found myself finding other things to do rather than read this book, and when I did sit down to read I would only read a few pages before getting bored and doing something else.
As some other reviews have stated, there was a lot of describing the action after the action had happened, making it not so much of a crime thriller but a book that was lacking something. A lot of introducing characters and then them disappearing and never being heard from again and a lot of jumping between time frames.
The descriptions were great and I could picture where was being described so clearly, but this just wasn’t a book for me. A real shame because I really wanted to like this book!

Morbius, the living vampire.

What can I say, other than it is getting terrible reviews?

Starring Jared Leto and Matt Smith, you think the former would have learned from his abysmal Suicide Squad role, with the latter not seeming to have much luck at all with his Hollywood choices despite starring as one of the biggest names in British TV: that of The Doctor.

Basically? Leto plays a scientist suffering from a rare blood disorder who, in an attempt to cure himself by splicing Vampire Bat DNA to his own (don't think too hard about the science!) manages to turn himself into (more or less) a vampire. Anti-hero, basically.

Set in the same universe as Venom - with those films getting a wink wink nudge nudge moment - if not the main MCU this is relatively short, very murkily shot (I still haven't got a clue what went on during the final scenes) and lacks the draw of Tom Hardy completely over acting.

Hmmm ... I've got to admit that I struggled with this book. I finished it but only just and only with a bit of skim reading along the way.

What I liked about it: the setting and the general creepiness.

What I didn't like about it: the main character ... well, actually, most of the characters if I'm honest, the repetitive nature of some of the story, the dream sequences, lack of anything much happening most of the time and whilst the "mystery" was intriguing in the beginning, the twist was, for me, pretty obvious.

I'm sorry I didn't enjoy this as much as I was hoping but I guess you can't please everyone all of the time and there are plenty of very positive reviews for this book so if it sounds like your kind of story, give it a go.

Thank you to HQ and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of The Wilderness Retreat.
