You can definitely tell Bowie's touch on this album, the music being somewhere between the Stones and Bowie's own sound. At times early glam, others rock and roll, the album is generally fine but not all that memorable.

"I met Chuck Berry one time on an airplane. I said, “Hi, I’m Brian Wilson!” He goes, “Hey,” and then he turned away. He wouldn’t talk to me. Too bad. But he taught me how to write rock & roll songs."

"I had the chance to see Pennebaker give a talk before a screening of Monterey Pop. The audience got incredibly rowdy during his discussion of his short film Daybreak Express and interrupted Pennebaker’s remarks, chanting “Let’s rock!” Pennebaker gave up and rolled the film. Really lousy, but fitting. Watching Pennebaker and the Maysles’ incredible documentaries in tandem give me those same raw and complex feelings about rock ‘n’ roll as an art and a primal force."

"The book centers on the meteoric rise of a rock band in the ‘70s and its lead singers Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne, whose connection is as electric as the music they make together. It’s sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll, people!! The book comes out March 5, so you can pre-order it now… And the very best part?! Hello Sunshine is turning this into a TV show with Amazon Studios… so stay tuned for more updates!"

This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
This Is Spinal Tap (1984)

"I guess I’d have to say This Is Spinal Tap. I don’t know that many movies made me laugh as hard as that did — the first few times I saw it, anyway. I haven’t seen it in a while, but I know that at some point I will watch it again and laugh anew at it. That movie is just so brilliant. It captures something from a period in rock and roll that, even though I wasn’t there, it just feels so right. It feels like, “Oh, yeah, this is based on something real.” That time in rock and roll, and these guys are not that far off from real rock and rollers of a certain band. And it’s just brilliant. I mean, it’s just so well done, and just so funny. I mean, they were such an amazing team: Michael McKean, and then Rob Reiner directing, and Christopher Guest. You know, it’s a masterpiece, a comedy masterpiece."

Not quite the sound of the Who I (as a casual listener) is used to. There is still quite a hint of their original R&B/Mersey Beat sound remaining and they haven't gone as full-on rock and roll as they eventually would.

"As if the Stones music isn’t enough, the fashions are right up there too! Mick in his omega T-shirt and concho pants, and his black-and-red Ossie Clark “Sympathy for the Devil” shirt, or in his white suit with a red scarf, on his way to Muscle Shoals. And Keith’s Nudie the Tailor red-beaded jacket. Rock-and-roll dreams are made of this!"
