The Plot: In a time of social and political unrest in Haiti, anthropologist Dennis Alan (Bill Pullman) travels to the torn country to study a Voodoo drug used in religious practices to turn victims into living zombies. With the help of a witch doctor (Brent Jennings) and a fellow researcher (Cathy Tyson), Dennis pieces together the deadly mystery. But as Dennis uncovers the secrets behind the mysterious powder, he must evade the Haitian authorities who view his research as a potential threat.
During production in Haiti, the local government informed the cast and crew that they could not guarantee their safety for the remainder of the film's shoot because of the political strife and civil turmoil that was occurring during that time; as a result, production was relocated to the Dominican Republic for the remainder of the shoot.
In an interview, Craven stated that unlike his previous films that had problems with the Motion Picture Association of America, the first cut got an R rating without any problems. According to an article from Fangoria #71, the original cut was three hours long but Craven felt that it was too long and talky so it was cut down to 98 minutes. It was then test screened to the audience and their reactions were favorable.
Its a excellent film.

Dora and the lost city of gold is a classic children’s jungle adventure; you have kidnapped adults, jungle traps, quick sand (I can’t remember the last time I saw quicksand in a movie, may be Jumaji 2), Ruined cities, giant, possibly man eating plants and a bit of cartoon physics.
The cartoony side of the film is a bit odd, the film is trying to include all the main characters from the series and this includes Boots the Monkey and Swipe the fox. Boots kind of makes sense, he was Dora’s companion throughout the cartoon and the character in the film did have an actual role that served a purpose, however Swipe seemed a pointless, his roll could have been performed by any of the other villains.
Over all ‘Dora and the lost city of gold’ is good, silly fun.

Merissa (12868 KP) rated Forgotten Storm (Storm #1) in Books

Nikki is a strong female character who has dealt with more than she should have done, which has left her with coping mechanisms she doesn't think anyone will understand. Logan is her mate and a strong character in his own right. He has done what he thought was right for Nikki, even to his own detriment, to ensure her safety. Of course, nothing goes according to plan so both of them have to deal with unforeseen issues.
This is, quite simply, an amazing book. There are some hard-hitting subjects raised here including sexual abuse, assault, BDSM, plus more that I won't go into. There are no slow points in the story and the pacing is perfect for the story. I loved how Nikki was into martial arts 'before' she knew anything so that helped her progression. Logan is a darling and I loved him! He's also an Alpha Male so obviously he needed a whomp upside the head at times and Nikki was the perfect one to do so.
A brilliant start to a series that I can't wait to read more about. Highly recommended.
