Watching this may send you mad
This horror spoof tells the story of a couple who get into a car crash. She dies and he is presumed dead and sent to the local asylum (not a hospital for some reason!) for autopsy which he wakes up during and kills the 2 coroners. 10 years later the daughter of the woman who died in the crash and her friends visit the now abandoned asylum to see if the legend about a psychotic killer dressed as a coroner - the man from the crash. Whilst at the asylum they run into a weird all female punk band and they are all picked off one at time by the coroner...the gore is actually really good including a particularly nasty drill to the head and a toe snipping scene. The acting is awful as is the script but it's difficult to tell if that's by design as this is a send up of the slasher genre. Worth a watch for the gore but don't expect too much!!!

Cute and touching
Maybe a cross between Rain Man and Lady Bird or Nebraska, this cute amusing film is about a girl with autism who is devoted to Star Trek (who isn't?) and has the opportunity to write a script for a contest where she could win $100,000.

The script turns out great, but now she has a problem: how to get it to Los Angeles within 3 days to beat the deadline.

I have always been a great fan of Dakota Fanning going back to I Am Sam, War of the Worlds and Man on Fire, and she is excellent and the star of the show here as well. Her portrayal of a young woman on the spectrum is truly believable, touching and sweet.

Some of the situations and people she encounters are a little too strange, unusual and/or only would happen in a movie, but overall her journey to LA is fun and you are really rooting for her to succeed.

Misses the mark
The trailer made this film out to be a wonderfully eclectic humorous look at the life of David Copperfield, but I'm afraid to say the trailer was very misleading.

I've never read the book and to be honest, I really hope it's different to this mess. Yes this film is definitely rather eclectic and seems to swing from attempts at humour (that really miss the mark) to rather sombre drama and seriousness, and it also just feels a little jumbled. The script too is not what you'd expect from a film that feels so obviously British and there's nothing particularly clever or witty about it.

The cast are great, there really is a stellar line up of British stars in this and Dev Patel is a wonderfully charismatic choice as Copperfield and he's well supported by Tilda Swinton and Hugh Laurie. It's just a shame the rest of the cast are let down by the dodgy script and plot.

I really wanted to like this, but sadly it's missing virtually everything you'd expect and want, especially some decent British humour.

Lost the plot
Yet another trashy netflix film that has just been churned out for the new content aspect. The script was obvious and stupid - within the first few minutes the main character talking to herself.

The main character is obnoxious, bratty and has one thing on her mind that revolves entirely around her. The premise is false and faked. Also, how many times do you want to use the roof broke/fell in as a plot change.

Character development is very limited, there seems to be a back story but it is never actually mentioned. The actual outcome of the competition is never shown.

Some of the young actors are very talented and I can see them having bright futures. I like the added layer with the deaf child.

There is a token black actor...... who is unsurprisingly the only outwardly camp/gay person.

Also Welly Wang?! Really?!

I suspect I am not the target audience but if I had tweens I probably wouldn't want them watching this drivel.

At last I've finally seen it, more out of curiosity than anything else. I'm not a fan of Hugh Grant, seems he can only play the upper class, bumbling English idiot in all his films, which becomes annoying. I can see why this is so well liked by some. It does have some quirky British humour and a witty script. However it's way too long and typically cheesy as well. Not bad but personally think there are much better Rom-coms out there.
