David McK (3633 KP) rated GoldenEye (1995) in Movies
Feb 22, 2021 (Updated Aug 5, 2023)
The first of Pierce Brosnan's outing as 'secret' agent (not the air quotes) James Bond aka 007, and also - I believe - Judi Dench's first outing as his boss M.
Back when the Bond films were actually good.
I realise that might be an unpopular opinion, but I actually preferred Brosnan over Craig as Bind, and (much) preferred all the clichés of the genre - guns, gadgets, secret bases and all - over the overly dour and serious Daniel Craig outings.
Anyway, this is also the one with Famke Janssen and her, shall we say, unusual methods of dispatching her foes, and also with Sean Bean (bonus points straight away, there, in my book) as Bond's once friend Alec Trevelyan.
Maybe slightly dated now - look at all those 'top of the range' computers. Complete with CRT screens, modems and all... - but that was always going to be the case for a Bond film.

Samuel Byrne (31 KP) rated Broadchurch - Season 3 in TV
Apr 22, 2017
New type of storyline to previous seasons (5 more)
Fantastic acting. Especially from Tennant and Coleman
Twist upon twist left you guessing
Kept the Culprit secret until the final epeisode
Ended on a positive note, leaving it open to a renewal in the future
A true return to form
Lacked some of the conviction of season one (1 more)
Had a hard job of matching it's previous seasons success. Just slightly missing the mark
A fitting final season
Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2444 KP) rated The Chocolate Bridal Bash (A Chocoholic Mystery, #6) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Lee and Joe are getting married, but getting Lee's mother to come to town is proving to be a challenge. It might have to do with a huge family secret. What does the past mean for the present? This was a fast moving book with plenty of twists and the usual great characters.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2444 KP) rated Relentless (Dominion, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Collin Boyd is walking to work one day when he looks up to see…himself walking to work. Thus begins a wild and crazy fantasy adventure that involves assassins and secret conspiracies. Yes, a decided break from my normal mysteries, but the fast paced story kept me turning pages. Can't wait for the next two.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2444 KP) rated Judgment of the Grave in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Sweeney's interest in grave art leads her to Josiah Whiting, a gravestone carver from the Revolutionary War. But a researcher who was looking into Josiah goes missing. What could Josiah's secret be? Another good story with characters I like. Well, most of them anyway. I still haven't warmed up to Tim Quinn.

JUMPCUT ONLINE (77 KP) rated The Secret Life of Pets 2 (2019) in Movies
Jun 30, 2019
It’s a strong sequel and, at times, even better than the original thanks to the welcome variety in story and a certain miser Ford and his Raiders of the Lost Bark. Will we get a third? Probably not, but for a welcome celebration of these box-office smashing pets and what they bring for their target audience, it's harmless fun.
