Veronica Pena (690 KP) rated Extraction (2020) in Movies
Apr 28, 2020
I thought this was an okay film. I can say that it's almost 100% likely that I'll watch anything with Chris Hemsworth in it and he's great. I will say that I wish I held onto him a little more. I feel like if they would've rolled out his story sooner or built the connection with Ovi more, I would've really felt a connection to him. I just felt like it came a little too late.
I've said it before, but I love it when films have a short timeline because I feel like it allows for a richer story with more details and not as much to contend with in making sure the details align and it all makes sense. I think that if this film would've had a longer plot time, it would've messed up the rhythm.
I liked that they left an ending that could provide for a sequel but didn't need it. If it does end up standing alone, it's a film that can do that. But it could also benefit from a sequel. It doesn't feel like this entire first film was a set up for a second film. This movie has enough to stand on its own and still be a good watch.
I am glad I watched it and I will probably watch the sequel if they do release one, but I can't say I'll ever come back to it or that I highly recommend. Watch it for Hemsworth or don't watch it at all.

Everything Could Be Solved With Honesty And A Chat
It May Be Dawn, But The Sun Shines For This Film
I loved this film as much as the first and falls in the rare category of sequel as good as the original,
All the way through the story, if the apes and humans just spoke to each other and were honest. Everything would have ended nicely and quicker

Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated The Program (The Program, #1) in Books
Jan 12, 2018
The Program is a way to prevent teenage suicide which has become an epidemic. That is they way THEY sell it but is it really? Sloane and James do not believe it. Neither so the other teens. They have seen Returners and they are not the same, they are missing their memories.
Suzanne Young has created a compelling look into the future. The story keeps you wanting more. Luckily the sequel The Treatment is already out.

Suswatibasu (1703 KP) rated Lights Out (2016) in Movies

Genuinely creepy but plot development was poor
No doubt this freaky horror will leave you watching your back and leaving the lights on. However, the story plot is under developed and extremely rushed, moving from one scary scene to another without much explanation. And it has a rather depressing ending, but not that of a 1970s classic horror, leaving no tidbits for a sequel as such. You'll listen to scratching sounds in a different way though!

Great cast (2 more)
The score
Iconic scenes
Mafia masterpiece
A great film about a Mafia family as the role of the Godfather passes from Father to Son. This is a must watch film and only bettered by the sequel slightly. Brando's dialogue can be hard to understand at first and the size of the family make it hard to keep track of everything going on. It's just a great story to lose yourself in.

Almost identical to the original (2 more)
Lots of running and shouting in the woods
More shaky camera work
More of the same
Nothing new here at all. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a sequel, although I think it is, but it could be a remake. Almost identical to the original scene for scene for large parts. The only difference is the camera is up to date and they have a drone. Don't waste your time.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2460 KP) rated Half Upon a Time (Half Upon a Time, #1) in Books

Another alternative fairytale story with the characters we know and love at war with each other. This time, a reluctant Jack is trying to help a strang girl from our world find and rescue her grandmother. The book moved quickly and the ending left me anxious to get my hands on the sequel. Highly recommended.

Erika (17789 KP) rated Black Widow: Forever Red (Black Widow, #1) in Books

I'm not sure what I was expecting out of this book, but it wasn't what I was thinking it was going to be. It was interesting, and I did like it, more or less. I liked it a lot more right after I read it, but thinking back now... It wasn't that great. I'll still definitely read the sequel, because I want to know what happens next, well, and I got the book for $3 at Barnes and Noble.

A very poor sequel set a few months before the first. There aren't as many jumpy scenes or scares, probably because you know more what to expect second time round. The endless scenes of the CCTV footage from each night.....and from what I could tell nothing was happening in those shots?! Nice to have more of a back story to the first, but it felt rushed towards the end with a painfully slow build up!
