Star Trek: Discovery - Season 5
2024 |
The final series of the most touchy feely of the Star Trek shows where the crew seemingly rely on emotions rather than logic to win the day (whether that's good or bad is up to you), this entire series is really one long treasure hunt: find a clue, follow the path to the next clue, rinse and repeat ...

It looks good, sure, but I'm not (personally) a fan of this approach to Star Trek.

YMMV.

Presented in the same style as 'Batman: The Animated Series', 'Caped Crusader' is akin to Amazon Prime's reimagining of the early years of Bruce Wayne's one-man war on crime, with some of the changes made working better than others.

There's also a through-line plot in the first series: that if the rise and fall of Harvey Dent, aka Two Face, with a coda that shows Batmans most famous nemesis may not be far off ...

<2024 update>

It's been a few years since I last read this, with the added time between now adding (to me) additional depth to the character of The Moidart and to Gaise Macon's often fractured relationship with him.

<original review>

The final book in the Rigante series and, while it may not be as good as the others, it still nicely round off the series. The blurb on the back of the book is a bit misleading, though ...

7th novel in Terry Pratchett's ongoing Discworld series (and the first individual novel), this was quite possibly my introduction to that series - I can't remember having read any before this one (though I have read them all since).

As this is set quite early on, a lot of the now familiar characters were yet to be introduced and expanded upon. Indeed, you can even see the beginnings of what would become "Small Gods" in the pages of this book.

Second Installment of Solid YA Series
I just recently re-read the entire Mortal Instruments series and thoroughly enjoyed it (maybe even more so than the first time around). This book is a solid sequel to the first one, and continues to develop Claire's creative world and characters.

The action is fun, the romance is hot (although sometimes a little too distracting from the plot), and the writing is good. Claire does a great job mixing in humor and emotion with her story, so the characters are engaging - even when they are unreasonable, selfish, and childish.

Give the series a chance if you like YA. It's a fantastic source of entertainment.

I started watching this show (on Starz in the US) because I like limited series. Limited series are awesome because they're kind of like long movies, long enough to know the characters, but without having to worry about show runners milking old story lines. The first episode of this series feels both fast and slow. You learn a lot, but it doesn't come screaming at you. The suspense builds the further in you get and the intrigue increases along with it. I think I enjoyed the characters and their development more than the actual overall plot. However, it was still a good story all in all. A good mystery/crime drama to satiate your needs.
