Poetry Speaks Who I Am is a collection of classic and contemporary poetry aimed at addressing middle schoolers in their transition from child to young adult. There is a wide range in the collection: classic poetry like Edgar Allan Poe, Langston Hughes, and Emily Dickinson and newer and present poets, some of whom read their work on the accompanying CD.

Poetry Speaks Who I Am has many poems that will apply to every feeling and thought, put words to what we can’t find words for, and prove that yes, there are other people out there who feel like you do now, you’re not the only one. You’re not alone. These poets talk about everything from the awkwardness of changing and showering in the fifth grade locker room to embarrassing bra shopping with mom, to a first kiss. There’s poems about segregation and ethnicity, homework and math class, sports, clothes, and even the emotions brought forth from reading poetry itself.

Not only does it have the poetry, there are pages in the back of artistic inspiring blank pieces of paper for the reader’s own poetry. The CD contains many of the poems read by the poets the way they were intended to be read.

Poetry Speaks Who I Am is a fantastic collection that every young lit-lover should have on their shelves.

This app can keep you busy for hours. Planning weddings, vacations, your dream house, outfits for every occassion you can think of. It is seriously enjoyable. (0 more)

Addiction, thy name is Pinterest!!
Love this app. You literally can disappear forever if you aren't careful. Thousands of pins, from cute animals to how sew in a zipper. One of my Besties and I have been know to do joint "shopping" trips on Pinterest. We get on the app, and IM back and forth. We have said that life would be easier if the App makers would add their own chat program. Kind of like AOLs chat rooms but private. You could talk and share a rainy day away! We have sent recipes, baby ideas, etc. back and forth. Last year we planned my niece's wedding by creating a private board where all of us could pin and write our thought about how or what would work and why. It was great, because we are all spread out across the country, and this wsy we all felt included. So yes, I am very pro Pinterest. The only thing I do not like is people stealing others(Micheal Kors, Home decorators, etc) intellectual property and either not giving credit or claiming it for themselves.

The first thing that I loved about this book is that the main female character has a warmth and depth to her that makes her immediately likeable. She is a young widow (not a virgin for a change) who is still grieving for her husband who died unexpectedly from pancreatic cancer. She is encouraged (bullied!) to leave her flat to go Christmas shopping but whilst she is in the store there is a terrorist attack. She doesn't just scream and flap and wait to be rescued. No, she thinks about the advice her husband gave her and follows it to the best of her ability. And that, is just the start.

This book is amazingly written and it is hard to believe that it is the debut novel. I would have loved more scenes with the three of them as there were quite a few with Ivy, and Ivy and her friends, but not so much with Ivy, Gareth and Steve. Maybe I'm just being greedy but they had such a good connection, I wanted to see more. Hopefully they will be in other Blackbird books, which I am eagerly anticipating.

On the whole, this book has a well-developed plot line which proceeds with a great pace. The characters are all believable and have layers to them. The story itself is funny, warm and romantic. Definitely recommended.
