Donuts and Disaster - other than making me feel extremely peckish throughout I surprised myself by enjoying this short book. I was having a spout of 'I want to read, but nothing is holding onto my interest' when I found this on my #tbr shelf. It's number 4 of a series of Sandy Bay Cozy Mysterys. Meghan runs a bakery and finds herself (yet again apparently) tangled up with a murder. The story was quick paced and a lot happened in a short space of time. If I were to offer a criticism I would say that the murder should happen sooner for such a short book. The murder did not happen until half way through, which means there was only a little time in the short book for it to be solved. But as a quick and easy read after a long day at work - definitely a winner. I like that you can read it as a standalone and not need to know what happened in the previous books. The discovery of a killer disappointed me a little as very little investigative work went into it - I was expecting more Jessica Fletcher than accidental confession/discovery.

does what its supposed to!
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

10 erotic-themed stories including BDSM, cuckold, threesomes and infidelity.

That is what the blurb says, and that is what you get!

These stories are short and steamy and sexy and they all come with a bit of a twist. I didn't see them coming with the first few but after that, I took to seeing what that twist would be and mostly? I was wrong!

The only thing is, I know they were short, it says the book is 60 odd pages and for ten stories in those 60 odd pages, they have got to be short. And for ME, they were just a tad TOO short, you know? I was just getting into the tale, and boom, its done.

I found them steamy enough, without being too over the top. The steam level I would put at 4 out 5.

BUT!

For delivering exactly what it says on the tin, and giving me a delightful, sexy read between 2 much longer, heavier books...

4 stars

I absolutely love Rosamund Hodge's writing. She somehow manages to balance beauty and darkness perfectly. It reminds me a lot of the Grimm fairy tales, but in a way, more romantic.

This is a retelling of Cinderella and has become one of my favorites. It keeps the darkness, but keeps it in some sort of fantastical world that makes it even more beautiful.

This was just a short story, but that doesn't mean I didn't absolutely love it. I need to get my hands on Crimson Bound soon. Even in this short story, Rosamund was able to fully flesh out the characters and make them completely believable. I didn't feel like the story was rushed or too drawn out. It was just right.

I would highly recommend this to people who love dark stories, fairy tale retellings, or just a good short story.

“He wanted to show that fate ruled people's lives, and that those who interfered with it did so to their sorrow. He put a spell on it so that three separate men could each have three wishes from it.”

Can you believe that I'd never heard of this short before and knew nothing of the plot what-so-ever, before today? Well it's the truth. I think being so ignorant to it made me love it more. I got completely immersed in the story and the lives of our caring and lonely White's.

The panic felt in this book translates to the reader so much so that you find yourself short of breath, praying, hoping, that the front door stays shut.

Excellent horror short, well worth taking 10 minutes out of you day to read.

This short story takes a leap back in time to when I'rone was but a boy and not yet married to either Betreec or Jasmine. It is a short story but still manages to provide an interesting addition to the series and tells you how Betreec and I'rone came to be (also Jasmine but that only becomes clearer later on). Something happens in this story that becomes a point of interest in the following books so it is definitely worth reading if you are going to read the series.

Short but packed full of relevant information. A definite bonus to read.

This book is very short. It only has extremely brief summaries of the top tourist sites. It does have some decent color photos, but I would not use this as your only travel guide. It's an okay supplement.
