Ross (3284 KP) rated The Emperor's Soul in Books

Another Cosmere world, another unusual magic system. I think this was about the right length for an interesting foray into Eastern culture and mysticalising (not a word) ancient artworks and skills.
A really enjoyable short read, though I don't see it contributing more to the Cosmere as a whole.

While not blowing, it was more enjoyable than most of the short erotica stories I have read. It is definitely erotic with well written scenes, but it seems as if it could be so much more. And I wanted it to be. I liked the premise of the story

Liked the stories, HATED the writing style .....I'd put it down for weeks and not read....rarely do I do that with a book, I can usually finish a short book like this within a day or two and it took MONTHS to finish.... stories were great though

I didn't realise this was going to be such a short story. It was like reading a long blurb. It was a short story which you have to then read the next book to finish the back story.
I wouldn't normally read this type of book but I gave it a go. The front story wasn't too bad but would be good if everything was in one book rather than being spread across a few. I didn't really make me want to continue reading.
The format the book was in was not good it didn't read write. The chapters were not clear and the lines kept splitting to a new line halfway through so the reading was not easy. Also the pages numbers were halfway through a line or page. It made the book hard to read and not enjoyable.
I was confused when reading part of the story as this all related to the back story which wasn't really gone into.
I probably wouldn't read the next book in the series because this one didn't really grab my interest and the format just made it awkward to read.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only.

not bedtime reading but very good!
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
A collection of 23 different authors come together to bring you short stories set around the winter season or Christmas.
Not a single one of these authors have I read before, and there is a varied bunch of tales here. Some are just sad but some are downright scary!
Loosely, they are "holiday" stories, but more are winter ones, rather than Christmas.
An eclectic bunch of tales that can be read at any time, but I'd recommend NOT at bedtime! You might stop on one of the scary ones, and get some weird dreams as a consequence, like I did!
I didn't read them all, I will be honest, but the ones I read were very good, or excellent. Just on the short side. but 23 stories across 360 odd pages is never going to produce novel length books.
4 stars

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Thread of Death (Elemental Assassin, #5.5) in Books

This is the first novella I've read in this series and I liked that despite how short it is that we still got to see Gin kicking arse.
Mab's funeral takes place in this and you'd expect it to be a rather sedate affair, right? WRONG! Two attacks in such a short story and seeing it all happen from three different viewpoints was an interesting angle for it to happen.
I'm expecting good things from the next book in the series now.

fab read
This is the second part in this set but the seventh part in this series by this authjor. These books need to be read in order to fully understand the story between the characters. This book is full of twists and turns, surprises, drama, lies, betrayal and loads of suspense. amazing well written characters just like the first book. This is a short read but the author has packed a lot into the pages. I can't wait to read more in this set and by this author in the future.
Highly recommended set
