Ross (3284 KP) rated Deadpool Volume 1: Secret Invasion in Books

Great fun
This short collection brings together 2 distinct stories with a link - Deadpool's involvement in the Skrull's secret invasion of Earth, and him destitute being hired to rescue a billionaire's zombie wife from a mad doctor. Both books have the tell-tale 4th wall breaks and a completely mad storyline. The skrull's enlist Deadpool's help in creating a generation of super-skrulls with his healing factor, but this doesn't go to plan. The silly storyline is a welcome break from the painfully serious Marvel Universe.
Very short, and possibly not worth the £5.99 on Kindle - but it is free with Prime Reading or Kindle Unlimited.

Roxanne (13 KP) rated The Boy Who Taught the Beekeeper to Read: and Other Stories in Books

Well...I finished it but I didn't enjoy it. I found the collection of short stories to be very depressing and once I had finished each one I felt like I had missed the point completely. I just didn't understand them and I found the writing to be quite muddled. I can't decide if it's a case of 'it's not you, it's me', or 'no, it's definitely you...yeesh'.
I picked this up as I enjoyed 'The Woman in Black' but they just can't be compared.
For quite a short book this took me ages to read...it's great if you need help falling asleep though.

Not quite but alright
Some people are giving it hell because of a couple of punctuation and grammar mistakes, big deal. My five comes from the shortness and quality of writing compared to others of the same price. However despite that this is still money well spent. You will probably, like me, sit and read this in one sitting. It is short true stories told by police with no frills, just the facts or what they see as the facts. It's a complete thrill ride which will shock you and make you think. Let's hope he brings out another.

Mills & Boon meets fantasy and VAMPIRES!
As a fan of reading the short Mills & Boon books as a divider between larger more intense novels, I was pleasantly surprised with this one. This was Mills and Boon meets fantasy and vampires, a brilliant page turner, demolished in just over an hour.
Not reading the previous stories in the Valorian Chronicles, I was not familiar with the characters but this did not effect the enjoyment of book.
If you like fantasy and mass market paperback romance, you will certainly enjoy this. Be aware that the adult scenes are not your standard "cute" romance.

I absolutely love Rosamund Hodge's writing. She somehow manages to balance beauty and darkness perfectly. It reminds me a lot of the Grimm fairy tales, but in a way, more romantic.
This is a retelling of Cinderella and has become one of my favorites. It keeps the darkness, but keeps it in some sort of fantastical world that makes it even more beautiful.
This was just a short story, but that doesn't mean I didn't absolutely love it. I need to get my hands on Crimson Bound soon. Even in this short story, Rosamund was able to fully flesh out the characters and make them completely believable. I didn't feel like the story was rushed or too drawn out. It was just right.
I would highly recommend this to people who love dark stories, fairy tale retellings, or just a good short story.
