When this book first came out it seemed to be publicised everywhere so when I saw it on a daily deal I picked up a copy.
I'm not sure what I was expecting but it wasn't quite what I got. While the main thread of the story focusing on the death of Lincoln's son and the ghosts in the graveyard was interesting it felt like this was essentially a short story bulked out into a novel (given the author is far more famous for his short stories this probably isn't surprising). The use of historical quotations to tell the parts of the story taken from real life seemed more of a clever affectation than actually a useful plot device. While I finished the book and felt like I knew a little more about Lincoln the man afterwards overall I didn't think it lived up to the hype surrounding it

For a short story this one really packed a punch. It had angst, humor, love, and was kinda hot. I plan to read more by Jade Winters after getting a taste test with this quick but very well developed read. Not easy to put that many complexities in 10,000 words. Kudos!

fantastic read
Another fantastic story from this amazing author. The characters were really well written. This is a fast, very steamy and sexy read. This author always brings you amazing characters. A well written story line with the right amount of everything. This is a short story but the author packs the pages full. You are never disappointed with this author, amazing read every time. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.

Andrew Lane (15 KP) rated Rocketman (2019) in Movies

Succeeds where Bohemian Rhapsody kinda felt short with, this is a fantastic, no holds bar film that perfectly depicts the story of Elton John's early career and his many struggles. The use of John's songs is expertly used to help progress the story and those sequences help make this a feast for the eyes. Taron Egerton shines as Elton.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story once I'd gotten closer to the end. To begin with, I found this a little clunky to read, things didn't seem to flow so well but once Jakob appeared in the story things started to become a little clearer and things got a little more mysterious.
It's a pretty easy story to predict but its gorgeously creepy and, in the end, very well presented.
I'm loving short stories at the moment, they often bring me a lot more joy than the full-length books I read.

For those of you who enjoyed my recent review of Annie Proulx’s short story collection that includes the story “Brokeback Mountain,” you might also be interested in seeing my older review of her National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize winning novel “The Shipping News.” In that review here, you can read why I thought this book not only deserved that prize, but also why I believe she truly earned the Library of Congress 2018 award for American Literature. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2014/08/09/get-roped-into-this-story/
