Maude Horton’s younger sister, Constance, has run away aboard a ship bound for the Arctic and the Northwest Passage. She is killed on the voyage, and Maude is determined to have revenge on the man that she’s sure is responsible for. Constance had kept a diary on board - and everything Maude needs to know is within its pages, even though the admiralty reports that the death was an accident.

Maude is an assistant to her Apothecary grandfather, and she will use whatever it takes to get the truth out of the expedition’s scientist. He is conducting public hanging tours, and Maude joins one of them. I had no idea that there was such a thing! How macabre! Very Victorian, though.

Constance’s diary entries were fascinating - what an experience it must have been, how dangerous (especially for Constance!) and completely different from anything she had ever experienced. Victorian London is described so well, and the hardships of the Arctic, equally so.

Maude’s dedication to her sister is admirable, and it’s refreshing to read about a young woman with so much skill and knowledge. The danger that Maude puts herself in, had me on the edge of my seat!

I listened to this on Xigxag audiobooks, and the narration was excellent. The story was brought to life by the narrator, Genevieve Gaunt.

An adventure-filled, gripping story!

A fun sitcom created by and starring Adam Green (Hatchet), with co-star Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2). This fun series based on 2 wannabe film makers desperately trying to get there movie made while dealing with everyday life. Many surreal and interesting moments (many of which involve Oderus Urungus from the band GWAR or Dee Snider from Twisted Sister) and a mass of guest stars from the horror genre, however I must point out that you don’t have to be a horror fan to enjoy this show!!!

[After The Darkness Omnibus:Episodes 1-6] by [SunHi Mistwalker] is set in a dystopian world where it is always winter. There are some people of privilege who live fairly comfortably but that can be taken away from you for saying anything bad about the government. Those people are often killed or turned into mindless puppets to serve the higher classes. The story follows the entwining lives of one young girl and the "hunter" with a conscience who capture her and her young sister. The way they fight for life and what is right changes throughout the story. This was an enjoyable read with interesting setting and characters.

This is another loving book for young reader. The Bear family go on an adventure and explore what the Harvest festival. This is their first one and new tradition. You can see their community. You enjoy the adventure.

The pictures can tell the story and goes along with it. Your children learn along the way with it. It great for beginner readers. The pictures are quite nicely down and you can enjoy the pictures and so can young children.

The book does teach about the festival and teamwork and community. It is a sweet book and you do see Brother and Sister's little sister Honey.

Magical read
I read this book a while ago and it popped up here. I remember loving the book so much that afer I borrowed it to read from my sister who recommended it, I ran out and bought it in paperback and an electronic copy for my Nook. The has a fast paced plot and storyline that never looses momentum. The story keeps you on your toes as well. It is incredibly well written, creating a picture in your mind of the scenery, charachters and more.
Overview- set in the past, 2 youths are trained to be competing magians in a circus but fall in love.

Jane Green writes an emotionally packed book, that makes you laugh and cry and want to smack someone sometimes.

Emily is a teenager and her father is remarried. She 'hates' her step-mother, Andi. Her sister, Sophia, adores her. And, of course, her father, Ethan loves her. Her mother is a drunk and really pays no attention to her daughters, and all Emily does is act out.

Then something happens that turns everyone's life upside down and inside out.

This is a story that spans a journey of nearly 7 years. And in that time, we see how these characters grow and develop into individuals and as a family.

Chronologically the 6th in CS Forester Hornblower series, this was actually the first published (in 1937!), and so is a pretty good 'jumping-on' point for those unfamiliar with the character or novels.

Sometimes also known as 'Beat to quarters', this sees Hornblower commanding the frigate Lydia on it's mission into Spanish held waters: a mission that will involve forming an alliance with an insane Spanish landowner, encounters with the 50-gun Spanish ship-of-the-line Natividad, storms at sea, and (the married) Hornblower's first encounter with (the fictional) Lady Barbara Wellesley, the sister of the future Duke of Wellington.

A quick reading and thoroughly enjoyable read it is!
