Merissa (13919 KP) rated Keras (Guardians of Hades #7) in Books
Dec 8, 2020 (Updated Aug 8, 2023)
KERAS is the seventh book in the Guardians of Hades series and the final one of the brothers to get his story. This doesn't mean the series is at the end though, oh no. There is a missing sister, don't forget, and Thanatos is just the god to go look for her.
Keras has been the ultimate grouch in all the previous books, being especially hard on Marek whenever Enyo paid him a visit with information. He takes his title as Lord of Darkness very seriously. In his story though, you find out that he struggles on a daily basis with the very real darkness. He even takes (highly addictive) pills that he got from dear old dad to combat it.
Enyo has been a recurring character throughout the series and now we find out just what happened between Keras and her. I found her character to be slightly confusing as she is a goddess of war, but comes across as being almost wallflower-like in some regards and strong in others.
Between the two of them are a multitude of misunderstandings, some of which I didn't get myself. These get swept aside though once the action kicks in because, believe me, you don't have time to breathe once it does.
A full-on, climatic, steamy ending to the brothers. Now I can't wait for the sister! Absolutely recommended by me.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated Chronicle of the Mound Builders in Books
Jan 12, 2018
[Chronicle of the Mound Builders] by [Elle Marie] is a fast paced, thought provoking ride. The tie between the past and the present using a female archaeologist as one of the main protagonists is a different take on a mystery.
As someone who if familiar with the Cahokia Mounds and the mystery that surrounds them I personally found the plot of this story intriguing. The characters were believable even in some of the more fantastic elements. It all fit together.
I could have done without the sex scene because it seemed gratuitous but I get that is common in fiction today. The story could stand very well on its own without that though.
I have recommended this book to my sister who is an anthropologist and a big [Elizabeth Peters] fan.

Lindsay (1807 KP) rated Courting Cate (The Courtships of Lancaster County, #1) in Books
Feb 8, 2018
Cate is quite different. She love to read and is reading something. Her father make a edit that the oldest must do everything before the youngest can even court. Both girls do not like this rule at all. Cate want nothing to do with this rule though their no way out of it.
Betsy has suitors though out and quite attractive. Pete Treager comes to Lancaster County for a job. While he there, Marvin and Martin in all trying to get Pete to court Cate. Cate though has her suspicious and it get in her way a bit. She jump to collusion and when she finds out about her little sister Betsy problem. I am not going to tell you for I do not want to spoil the ending the surprises that come though out.

Lindsay (1807 KP) rated The Accidental Guardian (High Sierra Sweethearts, #1) in Books

Are you a person would would like to see what an wagon trail is like. Learn about it some what. Well you get glimpses of it though the accidental guardian. You can see what it like to be a survivor of a wagon train.
We find out about Tracy Riley and some of his past. He has to protect not only woman but also two children. They are survivors of the wagon train. We seem to be following more of Deb's story rather then her little sister Gwen and the children. Though maybe in the second book we learn more about the children and Gwen story.
Deb is adventurous and Trace and seem interested in Tracy from the beginning. Trace put Deb in his bed that first night. Is there romance between them or not?

Alicia S (193 KP) rated Game Player (Game, #1) in Books

After one random hook up at the wedding of Mia's sister and Matt's brother, two years later Mia can't help but still want him. A well known player, Matt had never been into the "dating" thing yet something about Mia has him unable to stay away.. and once he's had her... there is no going back. Mia attempts to play the player and let their secret affair continue.. but can she trust him? How do you trust a man who is known to only spend one night and move on? These two are adorable together and hot as hell. The book was funny, moving and brought me to tears. A close-knit family that would do anything for one another, characters that you have to love and a fabulous storyline. Highly recommended - another incredible read!
Jamie (57 KP) rated The Heroin Diaries: A Year In The Life Of A Shattered Rock Star in Books
Nov 28, 2018
I have no idea why I wanted to read this book, but the curiosity bug hit me. It brought back some memories for me watching my own sister deal with heroin issues, addiction issues because of wanting to numb herself. Surprisingly, I was not disturbed reading the accounts of Nikki Sixx's journey through addiction, maybe because I lived this life, not as a rock star who gets everything he wants. More as, the by stander watching someone she loves go through the pits of hell so they can hide from the core of what is destroying them. I feel a sense of awe and respect for the man who has much strength to keep himself away from his vices and focus it on his zeal for his family and projects he creates.
