Open your Heart ( Chosen by Fate 2)
By Aspen Winters
⭐️⭐️
My name is Clara Daniels, and I used to be normal.
All I wanted was to get my business degree and live my life on my own terms, with my sister by my side and away from my two-face mother and her nosy husband who refuses to stay out of my business. But Fate had a different plan. Not just Fate, but The Fate, as in one of the three sisters with the golden scissors that decides everything.
Currently, I am fully Bonded to Ra, an Egyptian god, and nearly Bonded to four others. They call me their Balance. Without me, they would fade away. Die. Now, the Titans are after us, and all hell is breaking loose.
Fate has disappeared and the gods will stop at nothing to be sure I am kept out of harm’s way. But a war is coming.
I can feel it.
I did like this more than book 1 and I love the gods and most books centred round them but this was so repetitive and yes I know she has 5 of them to contend with but still everything was repeated 5 times and then some.

Witch
By Finbar Hawkins
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Set in the 17th century, a breathtaking debut, and a potential prize-winner, about the power of women, witchcraft, fury, revenge and the ties that bind us.
After witnessing the brutal murder of her mother by witch-hunters, Evey vows to avenge her and track down the killers. Fury burns in her bright and strong. But she has promised her mother that she will keep Dill, her little sister, safe.
As the lust for blood and retribution rises to fever pitch, will Evey keep true to the bonds of sisterhood and to the magick that is her destiny?
I can’t work out how I honestly feel about this book. It was odd bits I enjoyed and bits I couldn’t settle with. It was written really well but something is pulling at me to make me unsure. That possibly means no sense to anyone but me. I think I may come back and reread it at another time and see if I see it any differently. If you like folksy witchy books then I think you will like the feel of this story of a young girls journey to getting revenge and finding her inner witch.

Debbiereadsbook (1570 KP) rated Kelvin (Tangled Tentacles #5) in Books
Jan 15, 2023
A fitting end!
Independent reviewer for Archeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is book 5 in the Tangled Tentacles series, and you really MUST read the other books before this one. There is an on-going story arc that is not fully recapped here. And you know, cos I said so!
And what a way to finish out the series! We get to the bottom of Andromeda, and just how long that's been going on.
We catch up with the other brothers, and I loved that.
But mostly, this is about Magnus and Kelvin finding each other, and finding Magnus' sister. I loved that Magnus and Kelvin talk about the baby situation, beforehand. The other brothers just jump straight in and worry at their peril!
Oh I loved the birthing scene and the surprises that brings.
We are introduced to new characters, and that epilogue! Oh, that's a cliff hanger I did not see coming!
So, while we have all 5 Thalassa brothers mated and happy, with or without children (yet) we are left hanging as to what comes next! Who, is not in question, just the WHAT! And I can't bloody wait!
5 full and shiny stars

Lara Jean is back again for the final installment. Lara Jean is writing a letter to Peter whilst on holiday in Korea, and they speak on the phone. They both still have plans to go to Stanford together, problem is, Peter got in and Lara Jean is still waiting to find out. she eventually finds out that she didn't get in and feels like her life is falling apart, but it gets worse when she sends Peter a text meant for her sister, meaning he is led to believe she got in to Stanford. She does, however, get into a different college which is just over an hour away, but after a school trip to new york she starts to reconsider her options.
Just like the other movies in the franchise, I enjoyed the movie, probably more so than the second one. It wasn't hugely predicatable but I did feel Peter came across as a little selfish in this movie, but he did redeem himself eventually. There were a few scenes which I thought were pointless, such as Peter and his dad, even if this scene was ommitted it wouldn't have affected the movie at all. if you enjoyed the previous movies, you will definitely enjoy this one.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2440 KP) rated Of Manners and Murder in Books

Dear Miss Hermione, Can You Solve My Murder?
Violet Manville is shocked when her aunt tells her she writes the popular Miss Hermione advice column and then tells Violet that she is in charge of the column while she goes off to the continent. Among the first letters Violet receives is one from a young woman who thinks someone is trying to kill her. When Violet goes to try to help, she interrupts the woman’s funeral. Can Violet figure out what is happening?
I thought the first in this new series, set in Victoria England, sounded like fun. I am glad I picked it up because I was right. The characters are good, although Violet’s half-sister can be a bit shallow. I suspect that is on purpose, however. We do get a few scenes from her point of view, but the switch is always obvious. The plot is lots of fun and plenty to keep us engaged. I did feel Violet made a leap at the end, but the solution was logical. If you are looking for a fun premise for a new series, this is one to check out. I look forward to seeing where it goes from here.

Merissa (13427 KP) rated A Sucker For Christmas in Books
Dec 4, 2023
A SUCKER FOR CHRISTMAS is part of the multi-author Tinsel and Tentacles series and it was brilliant! Simple as that.
Fitch and Shaun have been friends since Fitch was four years old, and they spend every Christmas together. He has one big secret though, that he can't share with Shaun. He has an Octopus animal spirit, but Shaun doesn't like them. This leads to both of them keeping quiet, when they each want the other. This leads Mandy, Shaun's twin sister, to intervene in hilarious ways to get them together.
This was fun and festive, with plenty of steam. I loved Fitch's octopus and the role he played. Every character in here is superb. Mandy is a character with a capital C, and I can't decide if I love her or if she drives me insane. I guess I'm in good company with Fitch and Shaun then!
This was a one-sit read for me and I thoroughly enjoyed every word. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by me.

Merissa (13427 KP) rated Red Wolf Hunting (Wolves Ever After #2) in Books
Jul 12, 2023
RED WOLF HUNTING is the second book in the Wolves Ever After series. You don't need to have read book one, although the characters are mentioned in passing.
Aileen is prepared to partner with Rory in search of the Golden Shield. Rory wants to destroy it as it could control him and the rest of his wolf-kin. Aileen wants to protect it and hide it from sight, as it is a family relic. Together, they need to retrieve it from those who stole it.
Aileen and Rory didn't quite grab me as much as Sterling and Myra did in Book One, but I still enjoyed their story. What I've found with Amberlyn Holland books is that the story revolves around the main characters getting to know each other - usually through trying times - and leading up to their relationship together, not the relationship itself.
It is Aileen's sister and Rory's partner next up so who knows where their story will take us?
An enjoyable addition to the series and recommended by me.
