Movie Critics (823 KP) rated Despicable Me 3 (2017) in Movies
Jun 19, 2017
Steve Carell's dual performances are stretched too thin since the movie is more interested in throwing loads of slapstick gags than developing reasonable character arcs between Gru and Dru.

A very good spoof film making fun of The Grudge, The war of the worlds, Saw and The Village. It has a good mix of slapstick, visual jokes and great spoofs of the films mentioned. A lot like the 3rd installment. This is the type of film you love or hate!

Campy and Chessy
The Raven- is a excellent slapstick comic-horror film that is based off of Edgar Allen-Poe's Poem. The effects are cheesy meaning bad but those were effects back in the 60's. Now we have CGI. So looking back those were the effects that their had. And it got better overtime. I just love the campest of this film. Its horror but slapstick horror with cheesy effects.
The Plot: Magician Erasmus Craven (Vincent Price) is still deeply depressed two years after the death of his beloved wife, Lenore (Hazel Court). One day, he's visited by Adolphus Bedlo (Peter Lorre), who has been transformed into a raven after losing a duel to Dr. Scarabus (Boris Karloff), an evil wizard. After Craven transforms Bedlo back into a human, Bedlo claims to have seen Lenore's ghost at Scarabus' castle, prompting the two to head to Scarabus' castle to seek Craven's lost love.
I love the performaces by Vincent Price, Boris Karloff and Jack Nicholson. Three generations of actors right their. Plus Roger Corman directed it.
Its a cheesy campy film but got to love it cause of the slapstick.

It's not as good as the first. Not quite so many laughs, the storyline just wasn't as good. More of a gross out and slapstick comedy than the first. It's just silly a lot of the time, you'll like it depending on your sense of humour. Pity Kelly Brook wasn't in it a bit more!

David McK (3204 KP) rated Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) in Movies
Jan 18, 2024
More or less direct sequel to the first Robert Downey Jr Sherlock Holmes movie, that again continues the unfortunate trend of an over-reliance of slow motion scenes, and slapstick based around Holmes being in disguise.
Better than the first, yes, but nowhere near as good as the BBC Benedict Cumberbatch adaptations, or even of NBCs Elementary.

Good performances
Hilarious remake of the original
So where to start with 21 jump street. At first glance, you have two lead actors in there primes. Two comedic actors in there primes. Add that together with a fair script and you will have a good combination for a comedic film.
The performances of both Tatum and hill are on point and the supporting actors match them as well. With The only downfall I could really pick out would be there a fair bit of silent scenes where it's the obvious slapstick comedy.. For me, it doesn't pay off.
That being said, I would still watch this film again and still laugh, the plot is good, the performances are on point and the comedy albeit slapstick is still funny.
