AWAKENING THE SHERIFF is the second book in the Forestville Silver Foxes series. The title gives away one of the MCs, but the other is a new teacher in town, Keaton Perry.
I loved returning to Forestville and the close-knit group of friends. Auden has been stuck in a rut for a while now but has no idea how to change it, whatever 'it' may be. Keaton has moved to Forestville because he has warm memories of living in a small town himself. Of course, life never runs smoothly, especially when you've got teenagers.
Auden and Keaton's story is completely organic - nothing seems forced or false. It moves at a steady pace, giving the reader time to enjoy each and every scene. I loved the get-togethers where we saw all of the friends, and I REALLY loved how Auden expressed himself. Their story shows that love can be easy when you're with the right person, even when life can be hard.
I can't wait for the next book in this series but I am also hoping that we have a Forestville: Next Generation scenario, as I really want to know more about Gabe, Violet, and Dani. I also need Byron to have his HEA. He deserves it so much.
Such a brilliant book! I have absolutely no hesitation in HIGHLY recommending both this book and the series.

I am a huge Baldacci fan thanks to a great friend's introduction to his work! I have found myself particularly sucked in to the Camel Club series and #4 did not disappoint. In fact, I think this has been my favorite of the series thus far...of course I feel like I say that every time I read one of his books.
This installment of the series picks up right where the 3rd book ended. Oliver Stone finds himself breaking the water's surface after having tossed his scoped sniper rifle & then himself off of a rocky cliff after killing one of America's higher ups. He bails on the Camel Club & splits out of D.C. with no clues as to where he is heading. He eventually finds himself in a small, coal mining, mountain town called Divine, Virginia.
From there, & as usual, Stone finds himself mixed up in a corrupt supermax prison scandel & surrounded by a lethal drug ring, with most of the small town's residents blissfully unaware. You would think he was in over his head, but when one of your best friends is a Secret Service agent & you yourself are a former government assasin, I don't think you could ever be in over your head. I do have to admit that there were points in the story that I was convinced that Stone was finished. He was in some very precarious situations, unlike ones he'd been put into before. Of coure I did also know that there were more books in the series, which did ruin a little bit of the suspense. I mean, what would the Camel Club be without Oliver Stone?

AN IMPOSSIBLE MATE is the first book in the Strength of the Pack series, and features a small pack of stragglers and strays who all ended up in Elk Ridge, under the care of Matt, the alpha, and Bryce, the beta. Matt and Bryce are also the sheriff and deputy in town.
This is a world where shifters are known about, even if they aren't 'mainstream'. They have their own history, which you learn a little about, but they still keep a lot of things separate.
The pack is doing okay when Jesse comes along. He has been raised amongst non-shifters, so doesn't know about scent markers or anything else like that. After injuring one of the pack members and being injured himself, Jesse stays on the ranch, just for the short term. He is mouthy and funny, and Matt can't get him out of his head.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, especially seeing how the small pack meshed with each other. Matt's striving for calm orderliness was completely understandable, as was watching it descend into chaotic madness with all of the individual personalities that lived under one roof. The description of the photo at the end perfectly embodies all of them.
This was a great introduction to the series, and I can't wait to continue it. Jason's story is next (I think). Definitely recommended by me.

Promise Falls is a small town that is slowly losing itself. The amusement park has shut down along with the newspaper. Because of this latest incident, David Harwood is forced to move back in with his parents along with his son, Ethan. Eager to find a job he helps his parents with whatever they need around the house. As he takes some food to his cousin, Marla, he makes a startling discovery. She has a baby that she insists an angel has brought to her house. When the mother of that baby is found murdered, David does all he can to protect Marla despite her sorted past.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the opportunity to read and review this title. <u>Broken Promise</u> is the first in a new trilogy by Linwood Barclay. This book wasn't necessarily action packed, but it held my attention completely. By the end of the book there were 23 dead squirrels, 5 dead people, 2 unsolved murders and one strange adoption case. There is a cliffhanger at the end of the book that made me immediately go out and get the second book in the trilogy <u>Far From True</u>. Linwood Barclay is a great storyteller who keeps the reader wanting more.
This book had me asking many questions at the end and wanting to know what is going to happen next. Marla, who is David Harwood's cousin lives alone and posts reviews online for various companies. Less than a year earlier, she had lost her child and her life will never be the same. David was working for the Boston Globe, when he became a single parent, and decided to move back to Promise Falls so that his parents can help him with his son, Ethan. Detective Duckworth is celebrating his 20th year on the force, when these incidents take place. These characters along with the other residents of Promise Fall will spend the three days trying to solve the mysteries that are taking place in their small town. Will Marla be charged with murder? How did this baby really come to be in her possession? Will David be able to get to the bottom of the mystery before he becomes a part of it?
Look out for the rest of the books in the trilogy.

Vividly realistic, a real page-turner
This is unlike most thrillers, which seems to become hyperbolic by the end of the book. Set in the outback of Australia, the novel focuses on a small rural community where a family have been murdered.
A detective is forced to go back to his roots in this town, and confront his own demons which appears to have a connection to the murder in some shape or form. Here we see farmers reeling from drought and bush fires, making them distraught and antsy by his presence. We see increasing tension and violence as he continues to wade through all of the mysteries, overturning all of their stories, culminating in possible ex-communication.
It is an intriguing tale with the denouement well hidden until the end. The harsh surroundings and the unforgiving characters in the township are well explored and the descriptions are vivid. I read this in two days, as it is an easy page-turner, gradually revealing dark secrets, uncovering the truth through past conversations and events which leave you fairly surprised. Looking forward to watching the film.
