Great Christmas Horror anthology
I came across this last year and didn't expect much as a straight to DVD film. It turned out to be a little gem of a film. Mixing up various horror types from Slasher, Ghost story, mythical and the plain weird. All linked together by William Shatner as the small town local radio DJ. Reminded me of @Trick 'r Treat (2007) something for everyone, check it out.

Merry is a reporter in a small Pennsylvania town. One night, she arrives home to find a body in her trunk. Which means the killer starts coming after her. I loved this book just as much as the first time around. The Christian aspect is handled well, the story moves quickly, and the characters are lovable.

Twisted, dark humour
The first volume of Preacher sees Jesse Custer quickly on the run after receiving Genesis (and his church exploding) - in fact, most of the first series of the TV adaption takes place within the first few pages, with a much-expanded look at the life of jaded reverend Custer in the small Texas town of Annville.
The story from there on is mad, twisted, dark and funny and includes so many oddball characters.

"An early sixties, black and white British gem from John Schlesinger. Tom Courtenay plays a dreamer who wants to bust out of his small town with the help of Julie Christie. One of the saddest endings to a comedy I’ve ever seen. I saw John Schlesinger give a Q&A after a special screening at the Film Forum, and he said he didn’t feel that the ending was sad at all, just appropriate to Billy’s character."

"I came from a small town, with parents whose only wish for my future was a factory job, so this film, and the novel it was based on, felt close to home. My only desire was to somehow escape my surroundings, so when I first watched this movie in my early teens, I found the ending truly agonizing. Beautifully shot in black and white by Denys Coop, who also shot This Sporting Life for Lindsay Anderson that same year."
