While the late Heath Ledger may always be remembered for his portrayal as The Joker in The Dark Knight, and speaking personally, that's actually NOT the first film I remember seeing him in.

This is.

Starring as William, the peasant squire of a Knight who partakes in the medieval sport of jousting - which is restricted to the nobility - and who, just as the film starts, impersonates said Knight (who has passed away), this is very (very) loosely based on Chaucer's 'The Knights Tale' in the Canterbury Tales.

Indeed, Chaucer himself is one of the key characters in this film, portrayed by a pre-Vision (from the MCU) Paul Bettany.

Yes, the soundtrack is completely anachronistic (Queen? David Bowie?) but also actually works in the context of the film!

Movie Favorite Watch

"Last of the Mohicans was like my childhood favorite. I love that movie. The soundtrack to that is probably one of my favorite in the world. My favorite movie is probably the life of Daniel Day-Lewis. If you watched Gangs of New York, it sucked, but then you see him as Bill the Butcher, it’s unbelievable. You really want to say Gangs of New York because he’s so amazing, but then you want to say There Will Be Blood. I mean, really, he’s so amazing. My Left Foot, Last of the Mohicans; the guy is just a freak of nature. He’s like a national treasure. That’s what he should be considered. Mindblowing, absolutely mindblowing. I can’t wait to see him play Lincoln. Anything Daniel Day-Lewis is in, that’s pretty much my favorite movie."

"This was the point where Steve Miller set up his own studio and started recording in his own time. He lost himself in that process. I love his take on music – it's his own brand of psychedelia. It's very blissful on one hand, very groovy on the other. He created his own musical world and almost ends up referencing himself rather than taking influences from other people. I love it when an artist has a feedback loop to their own music. The first track, 'Song For Our Ancestors', is the one for me. It's soundtrack-y, incredibly evocative. It starts with a giant foghorn and this beautiful tremolo guitar that seems to emerge from the mists. Again, it's taking you somewhere, imagining this other world, albeit rooted in history rather than just imagination."

Album Favorite

"This was a huge album amongst me and my friends. It was kind of the soundtrack to ten years of my life. From high school, through uni and then right out of uni was all soundtracked by that record really. It was the Bible in terms of hip-hop. It was one of the first introductions to hip-hop of mainstream appeal. It was so full of bangers. It's overly long and the production… well, it's Dre, isn't it? Anything from it is so ingrained in my generation. I'm always happy to hear this album which I think is the true sign of a good album. Although I wouldn't be so pleased to hear Kid A, because it doesn't have that same mood. 2001 has that 'all moods covered' thing going on."

Russian madness

I have to admit I’m a little disappointed in this series of Peaky Blinders. Whilst it’s as violent as ever, the storyline appears to have gone a little off the rails. The whole plot regarding the Russians is just completely bonkers and rather confusing, and by the end of the series the Russians had become a massive irritation and I couldn’t wait to see the back of them. Don’t get me wrong, the rest of the series was still rather good. A cracking soundtrack as always and some great performances, along with a pretty shocking ending. A great cameo from Paddy Considine and it was nice to see Tom Hardy back again, it’s just a shame the ridiculous Russian storyline had to get in the way.
