Heart Warming festive film
I'm not particularly a fan of festive films but I'd seen most other stuff out so gave this a whirl with an open mind. It was a pleasant surprise a mix of Bridget Jones diary type humour to start with and a few good laughs throughout. The romance side is OK and Emilia Clarke is on form as a helpless Londoner down on her luck and feeling sorry for herself. Until she meets Tom who improves her outlook on life.
I figured out what was going on before the big reveal, which is why I think some people probably didn't like it. Overall I found it a heartwarming film that was fun and festive without being overly cheesey. So check it out even if you normally avoid Christmas films.

The second best Roald Dahl adaptation!
In all honesty, I can't find a single fault with this film. It's funny, smart, and superbly made.
From the opening moments, you already have a feeling that it's going to be a good film, but it just gets better as it progresses.
The stop-motion puppetry is superbly done, and I never thought it would be easy to capture such emotion with puppets. The voices (Mr and Mrs Fox provided by screen legends George Clooney and Meryl Streep) are superb, with George capturing the cheeky tone of Mr Fox and Meryl conveying love, anger and a whole other range of emotions perfectly!
One of the best Roald Dahl screen adaptations, in my opinion only beaten by the 1970s hit "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory".

Mediocre step down for Tobe Hooper
Tobe Hooper, the director who brought us 1974s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, directs this low budget 2000 horror film about a group of unwitting college students who venture on a house boat for spring break and soon come face-to-face with a local legend, a giant mother crocodile who seeks vengeance when one of them destroy her nest and steal one of her eggs. This alone makes for a senseless plot as most of all of them deserve what's coming to them. The only thing really worth watching in this just seeking this giant reptile sink his chompers into them making a meal out of them. If there is one good thing about this flick, it is the soundtrack. The film stars Mark McLauchlin, Caitlin Martin and Chris Solari.

Headache inducing!
To the best of my knowledge, the first Spider-man film to follow the exploits of Miles Morales instead of the more famous Peter Parker, with Brooklyn teen Miles also getting bitten by a radioactive spider and acquiring new abilities just as Kingpin opens a portal into parallel universes after finally killing 'his' version of Spider-Man, as a (un-intended, from his point of view) result of which various other Spider-verse characters arrive in his universe and start to teach Miles Morales the ropes.
Much has been made of this movie, and of it's soundtrack and attempt to portray comic-book panels on-screen: bot of which, I have to say, I found to be headache inducing rather than the (supposed) 'fresh and vibrant' I had read they were.

Top-notch gangster drama from Brian de Palma. Idealistic government agent Eliot Ness (Costner) sets out to bring gangster Al Capone (de Niro) to justice, but is he prepared to do what it takes? Veteran street cop Malone (Connery) isn't so sure.
Glossy studio film-making at its most accomplished, with a smart script, strong performances, stylish direction, great action sequences and a fabulous Morricone soundtrack that effortlessly draws you in and leads you through the movie. One is tempted to knock a point off for Connery's attempt at an Irish accent, but this is one of his best performances, and deservedly got him his Oscar - but Costner is very nearly as good in a less showy role. Point added anyway for being a Hollywood action thriller that includes an homage to Sergei Eisenstein. Great stuff.
