"Beautiful, it’s not played often enough. One of the places I’ve lived with Emily was this amazing house in Malibu, for like a year. There was a huge yard, big salt water pool – we had our own rehearsal space in one of the pool houses and I lived in a trailer at the end of the property while she and John [Frusciante] lived in the main house. We used to put on Aphex at night. There was a big old deck and these speakers outside, and we would just dance in our underwear on the deck for hours. This was one of the songs we’d listen to over and over, all night."

"I don't really know what to say about this record. It's just one of those very emotive pieces of music that you need to be in a certain frame of mind to listen to and enjoy – those quiet, reflective moments. There are certain albums you can't put on in the car, and this would be one of them. It just wouldn't work. You can hardly hear the first three minutes of this, even if you turn your speakers up to 11, but it gradually builds up. It's refreshing, sometimes, to listen to music that has a completely different pace and is from a different world. If you're in the right frame of mind, it can be something deeply moving."

"This was when Madness were out of action, and ecstasy was in the air, I was checking out this and checking out that, and I remember hearing ‘Loaded’ in a supermarket in Kilburn High Road and I said “Fuck, what’s this coming through the speakers?” But I was reminded of it because I saw Primal Scream at Glastonbury this year, doing the whole album, and it just reminded me what a fucking great album it was. ‘Higher Than The Sun’, I think, was their masterpiece. I don’t think anyone got it better, that ethereal space between rock and dance music, than them with Andy Weatherall. I thought Happy Mondays were great, and The Stone Roses, but I thought Screamadelica was really sensational."

"It closely mirrors Low by Bowie. It took the format of the really busy first side and really melancholic b-side and took it to the next level grim. Grim factor 20. But it's a wonderful record and a very unique sounding record. I remember reading some things about how it was recorded, they didn't really use any amps. They just plugged straight into the desk and replayed it through speakers and recorded it again, which is mental. I've been a massive Joy Division fan ever since I started listening to music. It was probably through my sister and all her goth friends. Was she a goth too? Oh yeah! Everyone in Scotland's a goth, Luke, do you not know that? Margaret Thatcher brought such a black cloud over Scotland that there's nothing better to do than sit about drinking cider and listening to the Sisters Of Mercy."
