I gotta say: I normally don't care for remakes. But this one was pretty damn good. While it is a bummer that Universal has had such bad luck updating their classic monsters and throwing them into a shared "Dark Universe," I'm relieved that they quit while they were ahead. This movie goes to show that just because Marvel can pull off a shared cinematic universe, doesn't mean everyone should try it. It's amazing what can happen when studios abandon that route and focus on just making quality standalone movies. That is MORE THAN OKAY! Definitely check it out.

I've slipped into the middle of a series......I need to read the others!!

To say we are reading a murder mystery, Dead as a Duck is a lot of fun. I enjoyed the closeness of the main characters, the different personalities bouncing off each other.
Kit is a bit if a firecracker and very determined in the things that she does.....especially when suspicion is cast close to home.

As I said this is part of a series, however, it could easily be read as a standalone.....don't do it!! Go for the whole series and treat yourself to a cheeky bottle of wine.

I really enjoy Cara Hunter's Adam Fawley series so was eager to read this, a standalone thriller but, unfortunately, whilst I enjoyed the story, I liked the characters (although not many were likeable!) and I really enjoyed the mystery of who did the deed, I wasn't overly keen on the writing format which I found quickly became tedious due to the scene setting rather than focusing on the actual story.

Despite my misgivings on the style, I did like the twists and turns and, like I said, overall I enjoyed it and I thank HarperCollins UK, Harperfiction and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of Murder in the Family.

So, 2 things:

1) I actually listened to the Stephen Fry presented Audible version of this (in between bouts of actually reading it)
2) I was expecting there to be an over-arching plot, similar to something like 'The Hounds of the Baskervilles'

With regards to #2, there isn't.

This, instead, hews closer to something like The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes in that it is presented as a series of more-or-less standalone cases, with the final one in the collection 'His Last Bow' and with that one set in the early 1910s, just before the outbreak of World War One, and in which Holmes comes out of retirement to solve one last case.

Some stories begin long before the characters know they've started 🌊

Ariandwyn, the ancient goddess who waits between hill and sea, has been keeping her promises for longer than anyone remembers, and when Talise arrives at Llyn Du looking for answers she can measure, she finds something she can't.

STILL WATERS, DEEP is a standalone Welsh folklore romance about a love that feels fated without ever feeling forced. Tender and unhurried, with old magic sitting quietly underneath everything.

Do you find yourself drawn to romances where destiny plays a hand, or do you prefer love that's entirely chosen? 💙
