I truly Enjoyed this captivating story!!
This is my first book by James R. Hannibal, and I hope that it is not my last one. I put him on par with DiAnn Mills and Lynette Eason in the mystery and suspense genre. Chasing the White Lion is the second book in his Clandestine Service Series, it can be read as a standalone. However, I have the first book on order already

This book is the third standalone set in the world of the First Law trilogy and sees farm girl Shy (with a dark secret history) and her 9-fingered step-father return from market to find their farm burned and Shy's siblings abducted.
They duly follow the trail of the kidnappers and end up embroiled in a journey through the "wild west" of this world with groups of travellers seeking their fortune and without exception ending destitute in grubby town Crease.
A number of familiar faces (or hands) return in this book, as well as a number of new characters. I didn't really like the western setting, being totally incongruous with the rest of the books set in the same world, and the mysticism implied near the end was not very well explored (a similar gripe about the first trilogy).
A good read, but really for completists, not to be read as a standalone book.

Shadow of the Swan is a standalone novel set in Victorian England. I say standalone but I am seriously hoping it turns into more! Louisa is a strong and resilient female lead and Henry is superb, a rightful male balance to this pairing.
This story takes you from Egypt to England with all of the differences between the two brilliantly described. Louisa and Henry are supported by an amazing cast that I loved getting to know and I really want to see more of them! The pacing is spot-on with the whole book moving along nicely without a wasted word or unnecessary flourish.
This was a fantastic read that I thoroughly enjoyed. So good to read a Nicola Cameron classic again. Absolutely recommended by me.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Ross (3284 KP) rated Bates Motel - Season 1 in TV
Sep 21, 2017
Brilliant "before he was a psycho" alternative view of the Norman Bates story. This series sees the family move to a town with something of a corrupt underbelly. The series doesn't look to explore Norman's "tendencies" as much as I might have expected, but the rest of the peripheral action makes it an excellent standalone series without Norman in it!
We start to see something of the psycho emerge towards the end of the series.

Oh Captain! My Captain? Marvel's Cinematic Universe re-begins in Captain Marvel (2019)
Fortunately, “Captain Marvel” isn’t just good, it’s great, because of – or in spite of – the crucible of expectation, cultural weaponization and vitriolic online discourse. All that sound and fury ultimately signifies nothing because the film succeeds on its own merits, both as a standalone introduction to the character and as a building block of the wider MCU....
