'We'll be fine as long as we obey the laws of physics,' says Chris Bridges' character at one point in F&F 9. Well, obviously they should all end up dead, then; but perhaps this is an example of a knowing self-awareness which doesn't quite sit well in this most earnest of empty-headed popcorn movie franchises.

Anyway: Dom and Letty are raising their child off the grid in some rustic idyll or other, when their friends appear asking for help with a problem; not having seen Avengers: Endgame and how things turned out for all involved on that occasion, they agree to pitch in for another exercise in hunt-the-coupons plotting, with overblown stunt sequences linked by a (at this point) mind-bogglingly byzantine backstory.

The sizeable gap left by Dwayne Johnson is filled by cameos and return appearances by virtually everyone who's ever appeared in an F&F ensemble (no idea what young Eastwood did to get left out); virtually everyone comes back, even a couple of the dead ones. Of course, this just makes the film's gymnastics in dealing with the absence of Paul Walker all the more obvious (and a bit uncomfortable by this point).

Decent stunts and action, but all a bit slick and ridiculous even by F&F standards, and showing real signs of sliding into lazy self-parody; this series was effortlessly breezy entertainment for a long time, but it's definitely starting to look like it's running out of steam.

"Like The Chameleons, they should be playing stadiums, or should've at their time. This album is one of the standards of great American music. Some of the songs here are up there with some Frank Sinatra tracks, some Bing Crosby moments. Like 'Unsatisfied', for instance, that's a pop standard worthy of Billie Holiday. Again, they couldn't seem to get out of their own way for a period of time. The thing with The Replacements is if you ask Wayne Coyne, Michael Stipe or J Mascis, they were the ones that would say: ""The Replacements, that would be the band to be in."" They were everybody's band before they made their own band. They almost would have been what The Velvet Underground was at the time for the bands around them. They also had that catalysing effect of being crazy - they had a nonchalance that most could only dream of. At times they had a recklessness, which put them a few steps behind where they should've been, but that was The Replacements. And it was the first time that the bands we loved actually made a real record. Their songs were going to stand the test of time, songs that we were all going to cover. I know it was like that being around a lot of the bands during the mid-'80s. They had that magnetism Sonic Youth had, but had songs we could all cover, sing and play. Now you hear stories of them playing to 200 people at Coachella and you can't believe how it didn't translate to the younger generation."

Several teenagers encounter an ominous looking building housing a curious wax museum in their neighborhood one fine day. The proprietor is an evil Willy Wonka of sorts who invites them in for a look see. Once inside they discover the curious life-like looking exhibits which peak their individual curiosities. They soon discover the chilling truth. Once the velvet rope guarding each individual chamber pulls itself aside, an unsuspecting young person is transported to the specific realm depicted from the outside. These could include the mummy, the Phantom of the Opera and even the Marquis de Sade. Not only must they try and escape and not get caught by the evil creatures within, but they have to discover the overall diabolical plan for their destruction.

I had forgotten about this 80s cheesy horror flick until a recent stroll though Amazon Prime. The main reason for watching is the practical effects, They were cool by 80s standards; albeit a bit cheesy now. Having said so, I would still much rather have practical effects rather than bad CGI which completely takes you out of the scene. At least with practical effects, they are being executed on set so the actors can interact with them rather than staring at a blank wall.

There was some decent gore and semi funny moments as well. Parts of it reminded me of a Evil Dead type camp where they were not trying t take themselves too seriously, but I do not know if that as their intention.
