Good if not in top gear
Another decent entry which ticks the Fast & Furious check list set by the recent entries. Good to see more of the Fast cast of previous films on show here. There are some good chase scenes in various locations around the globe. We also get a peak at Dom's early life.
On the down side some of the cast deserve more screen time, also feels quite different not having the Rock in this entry.
The franchise in recent entries has had crazy stunts and this has some again which seem far fetched even by the usual standards. Even sending cars into space now.
It will satisfy fans of the series as a whole, even if it's not quite as good as some of the other films. Hopefully Fast 10 will combine the best elements of the franchise altogether to get back on track.

Freddie Archer is working as the nightlife columnist for Gotham Magazine in 1925 New York City. She loves her job, but things take a surprising turn when she runs into a boy she knows out on the street. She quickly realizes he’s in great danger trying to earn some money. Can she find a way to help him before it’s too late.

This is a short story designed to introduce us to the star of author Julie Mulhern’s new series. And it’s a good introduction. I really liked Freddie, and I’m looking forward to spending more time with her. The story was a bit simple, even by short story standards, but it was still entertaining. The story is currently free from the author’s newsletter. It took an hour or so to read. I’m looking forward to spending more time with Freddie, and after reading this story, I’m sure you will, too.

[Empire of Sin]by [Gary Krist] was an interesting account of the downfall of what I would have thought as the golden age of New Orleans. New Orleans was the last bastion of sin in the South during the Gilded Age in America. This was a time period when people were trying to live by Victorian standards and New Orleans went against them all. This was a war between cultures and depending who won, New Orleans was bound to be changed.

The book was well written. It started out really strong and the characters in the book were very colorful, more so knowing they were real people. This was a character driven non fiction which makes sense for New Orleans which had more than it's share. My only complaint was towards the end of the book [Krist] seemed to be quickly wrapping up some stories not giving the details that were present in the beginning.

I have recommended this book to quite a few people though. It was a much needed non-fiction fix.
