"Sweating it out in the former Belgian Congo as a civil war mercenary, with Sparks turning wrenches on his T-6 Texan, Hawk splits his time flying combat missions and, back on the ground, sparring with Ella, an attractive young missionary doctor, in the sequel to My Brother’s Keeper."

Author Annie Proulx became famous after her short story “Brokeback Mountain” was made into a movie in 2005 that won three Academy Awards and received five more Oscar nominations. (Plus, Proulx was just awarded the 2018 Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction.) This short story was originally published in the collection “Close Range: Wyoming Stories.” You can read my review of this book in my latest blog post here.

Erika (17789 KP) rated Star Wars: The Clone Wars Anthology in Books

Jan 10, 2021 (Updated Jan 10, 2021)
When this book was first announced, I was pumped! Additional SW The Clone Wars stories? Count me in.
However, this did not include new stories to my recollection. They were all based on existing Clone Wars eps. Maybe I missed that disclosure? Maybe I didn't.
Ultimately, obviously I was disappointed that I got a book of rehashed tales. The tales were still good, because Clone Wars is a good show. Thank god I didn't buy it.

This is a collection of short stories that follow various people who are not where they started out. They are immigrants, eccentrics and those who really don't want to be where they are. Themes include loss, isolation/ loneliness and difference.
Stories that particularly stood out for me, were the story about a girl who loses her leg, the elderly woman trying to escaper her old people's home if only she could remember what she's supposed to be doing, and the woman who goes to see a 'Sheikh' for family relationship advice.
All of the stories made me stop and think - mainly about what I would have done in their circumstances. Very thought provoking.
This was another book read on 'The Pigeonhole' social reading platform.

This is one of the most genuinely funny books I've read in a long time. The introduction made me chuckle and several of the stories had me laughing out loud and holding on to my stomach while tears fell from my eyes. The editor is honest in saying that you'll find some of the stories hilarious and others not so much but somewhere along the way, we can see ourselves in similar situations and circumstances and while it might not be funny at the time, in the end, it makes for a good story.

One of the things I particularly enjoyed about the book is that sprinkled amongst the stories are little jokes, quotes and witticisms about the happy accidents and miseries known as traveling.

An omnibus collection of 3 Buffy stories, set at different times during the course of the TV series. Having said that, in all 3 of these stories, Buffy is still at Sunnydale High ...

The first of these has by far the earliest setting, with mention of The Master (the villain in the very first series): I think this was written sometime during series 2. The second novel includes Spike and Drusilla and Jenny Calendar, while the third has mention of The Magic Box but is before that had a larger role in the series.

None of the three stories were that great or were that well written, unfortunatley: I got the distinct impression they were aimed at American teenagers more than anything else!
