If you thought only Disney Pixar can make animated musicals with the power to make you cry as hard as you laugh, then think again. Netflix is here to surprise you! I've always loved animated movies but avoided Over the Moon when it was released last month because I heard it was all about how a young girl deals with grief and ugh, can anyone in 2020 handle their emotions? Because I sure can't. I couldn't stay away forever though and I'm so glad I finally gave it a try. This is such a beautiful movie from its storytelling to its visuals. If this isn't an Oscar contender I will RIOT.

What Star Wars Should Be
Contains spoilers, click to show
I thoroughly enjoyed season 1 and season 2 is looking even better. This is what Star Wars should be. At the expense of going on a tangent..John Farveru should have been over Star Wars from the beginning. The Mandalorian fits so well into the universe. Seeing the Dark Saber that the Death Watch Mandalorian terrorist group used was a high point for me. Not to mention that Darth Maul and Sabine Wren from Star Wars Rebels also wielded the saber. The significance of the Yoda like child is still yet to be fully seen but he has taken the world by storm. I recommend this show to any Star Wars lover...It will not disappoint.

The second in the series of films you would recommend to a visiting alien species in order to explain humanity. This is an effort to try and engage followers of The Wasteland a little more, both via WordPress on the actual page and through the instagram account thewasteland.art.blog

If you have an idea which film or films you would choose to explain the complex emotions and motivations of humanity then just leave a comment below. If I like your suggestion enough I will include it in the series. We are thinking big, complex storytelling with tons of heart, passion and soul. No need to explain it, let the film stand for itself!

No. 2 Jean de Florette – Claude Berri, (1986) – Switzerland, France, Italy

"Kubrick was a fearsome intellect. His approach to filmmaking and storytelling remains as mysterious at it is compelling. The illusion of control over the medium is total. Both films speak eloquently about the scale of a man against the tide of history, and both raise the bar for every “historical” film to follow. Paths of Glory is a searing indictment of the war machine, as pertinent now as it was in its day. I suspect, however, that Kubrick was also a highly instinctive director, and that he grasped incessantly for his films. An anecdote tells us of him begging Kirk Douglas to stay in bed a few more days after an accident, because Kubrick was using the “downtime” to understand the film they were making."
