I liked some aspects of this; the detective by night; the relationship with the lawyer. But there were some things I didn't like; her husband and his behaviour; the mundane bits when she was just thinking strange thoughts.

>I just wasn't pulled into the story. I didn't devour it like I do some books.

I was liking this for the first 30% or so but then it took that long for something romance-y or paranormally to happen that I began to get a little...bored...so I gave it up as DNF at the 43% mark when the story just went a little too strange for my liking.

"This novel, a linked series of strange and acid and darkly comic vignettes on life in Naples at the end of World War II, gets at the material reality of a liberator (the American military) as occupier and at the contradictory and surreal world of Naples. In sum, no one is innocent, not even Malaparte."

One teenage boy, one brain tumor, and many strange things happening since his surgery - that's what Alex's life is like right now. In this very funny but uniquely bittersweet novel we see the world through his eyes. Read my review of this book here https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2013/09/06/a-life-in-the-day/
