Rickey A. Mossow Jr. (689 KP) rated Us (2019) in Movies

Performances are on point. (1 more)
Engrossing plot is well-paced throughout.
Enthralling thriller that promotes discussion.
Having only seen the trailer and done all I could to avoid spoilers. I wasn't sure what to expect with this film. The only thing I knew was that being a Peele film, I knew it would make me think and would be deeper than the average horror flick. The suspense and action are taut throughout and keeps you enwrapped. Little pieces of the plot are paced beautifully throughout and the performances are on point. You're left with questions well past the final reveal and the movie's message promotes inner thought. Any movie that can keep you enthralled from the opening scene to the final one and also promotes discussion is a win-win in my books. May have to rewatch this just to take in more of the messages throughout.

Sarah (7800 KP) rated Escape Room (2017) in Movies

Beyond stupid
Considering this was a straight to dvd/Sky film, I hadn't been expecting much and sadly it delivered even less than that.
I understand why this film has been made as escape rooms are huge at the moment, but this is such a poor attempt at a horror film. It's not scary, and there's no real suspense or nothing to make you care about the characters. There are so many ways they couldve done a horror escape room, and they picked the lamest storyline available. Put that together with a bad script and terrible acting and it makes for a tedious 90 minute watch. It's not even entertainingly bad, it's just awful.
All I can say is that for anyone watching this, please don't let it put you off doing a real escape room. Real escape rooms are really fun and entertaining and pretty challenging, and not in the slightest bit boring like this sorry excuse for a film.

Four Stars
This book was written really well. The author gave details and meanings to things we wouldn’t know. Cate is a promising therapist but she can’t seem to get over the death of her mother and her new found empathy. I didn’t really understand her character. She wanted help but was the road block that kept getting in the helps way. The story starts off really slow for me. There isn’t much build up or suspense. Cate's character felt lacking. Ben seem out of place in the story. Like he was the leader but not really the leader. I didn’t really understand the story concept. The flow of the story was really good it was very consistent. I give it four stars because it might not be a book I overly enjoyed someone else might love it. The characters were simple. I know I will read book two just because I want to know what happens next.

As part of a charity event, Sarah volunteers her expertise and agrees to manage an athletic equipment swap. Sarah becomes an amateur detective and compiles a list of murder suspects that all seem to be other members of the school board. With her quick wit and sleuthing talents, Sarah must find the killer before the killer makes her another item for the dumpster.
This book is more than a charming cozy mystery; the author gives you inside tips into the world of garage sale selling and buying. The mystery, suspense, and moments of comedy keep you interested, while you try to guess who the culprit is.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Brilliant insight into Bram Stoker's life
*** Disclosure - I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review ***
This book stays true to the format of Stoker's Dracula, being written in the form of a compilation of diary entries, letters and newspaper reports. This allows some of the main characters to embed their own voice and to give their view of events, the narratives interweaved to give a good, suspenseful story.
Bram Stoker was not well as a child, pretty much bed-bound until the age of 7. Then he suddenly recovered and went on to become a successful athlete and University graduate. This book takes that life story and layers on a brilliant prequel to Dracula, suggesting that vampires very much impacted on Stoker's life and he himself did battle with Count Vlad.
Excellent, atmospheric story with plenty of suspense and action, and a few twists and turns along the way. A perfect read for this time of year.

Roxanne (13 KP) rated The Woman in Black in Books
Nov 14, 2018
I really enjoyed this book, so much that I found it very difficult to put down...I must say I wasn't very happy that I had to put it down occasionally. I thought the story moved along at a good pace and it kept me interested from beginning to end. The reasons for removing a star was because I thought the language was a bit too descriptive in some places...a whole page and a half dedicated to how foggy it is in my opinion is a bit too much. Also, it wasn't as scary as I expected it to be. There was a good amount of tension and suspense but it didn't quite give me the chills I was looking forward to whilst reading it at night. For those who have watched the film first the book is very different, not so many supernatural moments occurred which was disappointing but it was like reading a different story. I recommend this book to fans of supernatural horror.

Zombie genius
First few series were great, storylines were good. Lots of suspense and characters with interesting back stories. This series offers great gore and horror along the way, they are also not frightened at killing off main characters even ones which the fans have come to love.
Negan was a breath of fresh air and even though he's a baddie he's funny and a character you come to like. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a great actor and brings good fun to the show.
The last couple of series however have become a bit boring and dragged out. There are a couple of standout episodes in them but otherwise I found them getting a bit boring and wonder if the show is coming to a close now on where to go. Would recommend to others still as the graphics and creative work on them is fantastic.

When Aliens Attack
Contains spoilers, click to show
District 9- was a intresting film.
The film is partially presented in a found footage format by featuring fictional interviews, news footage, and video from surveillance cameras witch is really intresting.
The story, which explores themes of humanity, xenophobia and social segregation, begins in an alternate 1982, when an alien spaceship appears over Johannesburg, South Africa. When a population of sick and malnourished insectoid aliens are found aboard the ship, the South African government confines them to an internment camp called District 9. Years later, during the government's relocation of the aliens to another camp, one of the confined aliens named Christopher Johnson tries to escape with his son and return home, crossing paths with a bureaucrat named Wikus van der Merwe.
It was Neill Blomkamp director debut and he did a great job.
